One of the most exciting teases to come from Avengers: Endgame was the team-up of the Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor. As the God of Thunder continues to grapple with his raw emotional state, he decided to leave Earth and the throne of Asgard to join Quill and his gang in further cosmic adventures.
While it's uncertain if Thor will be part of James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, or if any of the Guardians will join the rumored Thor 4. We do hope that this new partnership lasts as it would be sure to be a lot of fun. And with there's plenty of fun cosmic threats for the new team to take on together. Here are some of the best cosmic villains we'd love to see the Guardians and Thor fight.
10 The Badoon
James Gunn was really the first filmmaker to get to play in the MCU's cosmic side, and he quickly found that there are a lot of right's issues with that side of Marvel. Gunn has publicly stated that there were a number of characters he wanted to use in Guardians of the Galaxy that were not available to him, including the reptilian race known as The Badoon. Now that the Fox deal is done, Gunn is free to use them. While not a prominent or popular part of the Marvel Universe, the Badoon are a villainous race which have done battle with the Guardians in the comics. They could serve as an interesting army for our heroes to take on.
9 Thane
Thanos is going to be a tough villain for any bad guy in the MCU to follow. Given how iconic and popular the Mad Titan has already become, it wouldn't be surprising if Marvel wanted to work off of that popularity. And what better way to do that than with Thanos' son, Thane.
Thane is the inhuman offspring of Thanos and a powerful being in his own right. While his inclusion in the MCU might feel forced, especially since he wasn't mentioned until this point, there is some potential here. He could seek revenge for his father, and there might be an interesting dynamic with Gamora and Nebula.
8 Blastaar
James Gunn and Taika Waititi seem to have a love for Marvel's more obscure characters, which is why they are perfect to be involved in the insanity of the cosmic side of things. One villain who would seem to fit right at home in with their films is Blastaar. Looking like some sort of space-lion creature, Blastaar was a former tyrant who was overthrown by his people and became an outlaw. He could serve as a physically formidable foe and his unique look would be a lot of fun to see on the big screen.
7 High Evolutionary
James Gunn has recently talked about his triumphant return to the director's chair of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and his appreciation for getting to finish the story he started. He specifically pointed to Rocket as a character he wants to bring to a close, and the third film will focus on who created him.
Recent rumored story details for the film suggest that the High Evolutionary is revealed to be Rocket's creator. While these are just rumors, it would be a good choice. The complex and super intelligent character seems like an odd one to bring to the big screen, but Gunn proved that even a character like Ego the Living Planet could be an emotionally complex villain.
6 Korvac
Michael Korvac is one of the more prominent villains on the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe. He is one of the universe's most powerful beings and, as such, all of the Marvel heroes have needed to come together to defeat him. While Marvel might be saving him for a big team-up movie, we think he'd be better suited to take on the Guardians and Thor.
Korvac is an ordinary human man who flees Earth and becomes god-like after possessing the Power Cosmic. It would be interesting to see Quill face-off with another person from Earth or see what Thor thinks of someone who calls themselves a god.
5 Terrax
With Thor joining the Guardians, the next villain they face off with will have to be strong enough to put up a fight against the God of Thunder. Terrax seems like a good fight for that role. Wielding a massive battle ax, Terrax has a variety of powerful abilities including energy projection, flight, and super strength. He is a force to be reckoned with.
Terrax is usually not a villain who works for his own purposes. He is mostly used as a herald for the powerful cosmic entity Galactus, the devourer of worlds. While Galactus might be too big a villain for Thor and the Guardians to take on, Terrax could help introduce him as a coming threat in the MCU.
4 Gorr
Thor has always been a character who has spilled into the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe. While Asgard is usually kept separate from the space-faring characters, Thor and his kind run into them often. That means some of Thor's most memorable villains can still be used in his cosmic adventures, and Gorr would be an ideal choice.
Dubbed "The God Killer", Gorr is an extremely formidable character with a compelling backstory. Growing up on an unnamed planet, Gorr suffered and starved along with the rest of his people, losing everyone close to him. When he learned of the existence of gods, he became infuriated none of them helped his people and he seeks to kill as many as he can. This could make for a great villain's motivation.
3 Mephisto
Mephisto is one of the Marvel villains who seems to be an appropriate enemy for any of our heroes. The Marvel version of The Devil, Mephisto is a cunning and powerful being with a wide array of dark powers. While he might make more sense as a Doctor Strange villain, Mephisto does appear in the cosmic storylines often, even in the Infinity Gauntlet storyline.
He would work excellent as the charismatic and deceiving villain for the team to face-off against, or he might even be a great villain behind the scenes pulling the string. It would be interesting to see how such a complex character could be brought to life on the cosmic side.
2 The Magus
Adam Warlock has long been discussed as a possible new character to be joining the MCU. He was first teased in the first Guardians of the Galaxy, his existence was confirmed in the post-credit scene of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and many thought he might play a role in Infinity War as he does in the comics.
While he has yet to appear, when he does, it would make sense for him to be introduced as a villain. The Magnus is his villainous alter ego, and it would be great to see him take on the heroes before finding redemption and becoming a hero himself at the end.
1 Annihilus
Few cosmic villains could create as much trouble as Annihilus. He is another fantastic character who only recently became available to the MCU after the Fox merger. Annihilus is a ruler of an army from the Negative Zone. When he is released from that confine, he sets out on a quest to conquer the universe.
The interesting and intimidating character design is enough reason to bring Annihilus to the big screen. He would also be the perfect villain for Thor and the Guardians to face off with as he feels like a blend of space monster and mythological beast.
