Marvel Comics announced last month it will relaunch Guardians of the Galaxy in 2019 with the creative team of Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw, and a new roster of characters. The first member has now been revealed to be none other than Cosmic Ghost Rider.

Frank Castle debuted as the space-traveling Spirit of Vengeance in Cate's run on Thanos, later starring in a solo Cosmic Ghost Rider limited series. The series is set to conclude in November, but the character will be sticking around as one of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Set in the aftermath of Thanos' supposed demise, Guardians of the Galaxy finds that the team of cosmic heroes are needed now more than ever. But following Infinity Wars, it remains unclear who -- besides Frank Castle, that is -- will actually step up. That said, Marvel has teased the series will feature "every cosmic superhero in the known universe."

Cosmic Ghost Rider in Guardians of the Galaxy

"My first job at Marvel, with 'Thanos Wins,' was inspired by the work of my hero, one of the greatest cosmic storytellers ever, Jim Starlin. So being able to tell that Thanos story was a dream come true," Cates said in a statement. "And now that Thanos has died in the pages of Infinity Wars, my best friend Geoff Shaw and I could not turn down the opportunity to tell a story set during the fallout of the Mad Titan’s death.”

"Geoff and I always lean towards stories that are a little bit loud, and in space, the stakes and action can be bigger than anywhere else," Cates continued. "This was our chance to do things we’ve always wanted to do. To tear #$%@ up. And of course Cosmic Ghost Rider is on the team. How could he not be?"
