Cosmic Ghost Rider made waves when he was first introduced in Thanos #13, so, naturally, Marvel has decided to bring the futuristic servant of the (also futuristic) Mad Titan back for a round of variant covers. Each variant will depict the Cosmic Ghost Rider fighting the series' headlining characters.

The Cosmic Ghost Rider's debut was a somewhat depressing one, as he was first introduced as the servant of a version of Thanos from the future, also known as King Thanos. King Thanos ordered the Cosmic Ghost Rider to use the Time Stone to drag a younger version of himself into the future so that the two Mad Titans might fight the approaching Fallen One.

But the Cosmic Ghost Rider's story doesn't begin there. Perhaps the most surprising reveal in Thanos was the new Ghost Rider's true identity -- Frank Castle, the Punisher. The Punisher was killed when Thanos invaded Earth. After being sent to Hell, the Punisher agreed to become Mephisto's new servant if it meant a shot at killing Thanos. He failed, and later became the servant of the Mad Titan, himself having gone insane.

While it's nice to see the Cosmic Ghost Rider back in action, don't expect him to return in a big way any time soon. The Mad Titan's servant fell in the battle against the Fallen One and was subsequently admitted into Valhalla by Odin himself, which means, barring an epic escape from Norse heaven, the Cosmic Ghost Rider's punishing days are likely over.
