Amid the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus, Disney has closed the doors to its two Tokyo resorts, Disneyland and DisneySea for the next two weeks.

"As a precautionary measure in line with prevention efforts taking place across Japan and in response to the recommendations of appropriate authorities, we are temporarily closing Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea out of consideration for the health and safety of our guests and cast members from February 29 to March 15," Tokyo Disney Resort said in a statement. "We remain in close contact with related government agencies about the situation."

The shutdown comes as coronavirus sweeps across multiple continents, and it is not the first Disney park to temporarily shut down, as Disney parks in Shanghai and Hong Kong also closed in late January. However, the closure in Tokyo reflects the spread of the virus into Japan and throws uncertainty on the fate of the upcoming Tokyo Summer Olympics in July.

Disney claims to be working closely with government agencies to monitor the situation and says the parks will reopen on March 16. In the meantime, all current reservations that fall within the closure dates are being canceled and customers are being refunded.
