The latest Legendary Pokémon Zarude is set to take the franchise by storm.

Zarude will be the main focus of the upcoming Pokemon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle. The trailer features Ash and Pikachu meeting a boy named Koko, who was raised by Zarude in a forest. Koko refers to Zarude as "Dada," and the simian-like Pokemon appears to be fiercely protective of his young charge.

Zarude will also appear in the Sword & Shield—Vivid Voltage expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. The set features the first appearance of the "Amazing Pokémon" cards, which feature vivid rainbow backgrounds that extend outside of the frame, as well as a special rarity symbol. Fans also have the chance to obtain Zarude in Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield if they sign up for Pokémon Trainer Club email notifications by Nov. 20.

Zarude has sparked controversy in the Pokémon fandom since its debut. Part of this controversy is due to its Leaf Guard ability, which many players feel is rather lacking for a Legendary Pokémon. With Zarude making an appearance in multiple forms of Pokémon media, it remains to be seen if their views will change.

Pokémon the Movie: Secrets of the Jungle will premiere in theaters sometime in 2021. The Sword & Shield-Vivid Voltage TCG set is currently available to purchase online.
