Constantine star Matt Ryan has claimed he's written a pitch to bring John Constantine back to the silver screen for a new standalone film. Ryan based his treatment of Constantine on Todd Phillips' Joker.

During an interview with Den of Geek, Ryan said Joker inspired him to write a Hellblazer pitch. The actor explained, "I love the darker elements of John. There's something about the Joker movie that really kind of connected to me in the way of like, 'Shit, they need to do -- I would love to do -- a John Constantine movie like that!' Listen, I've had sleepless nights about it, honestly. God, I've written treatments!"

Ryan has played Constantine since 2014, and although NBC's Constantine only lasted for 13 episodes, Ryan has reprised his role in The CW's Arrow and became a series regular on Legends of Tomorrow. Aside from this, Ryan has become synonymous with voicing Constantine in animation and most recently lent his vocals to Justice League Dark: Apokolips War.
