ABC has released the first photo from the set of The Conners, the upcoming Roseanne spinoff starring all of the key cast members except for Roseanne Barr.

Taken on the first day of production, the image depicts stars Sara Gilbert, Jayden Rey, Michael Fishman, Ames McNamara, John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Lecy Goranson and Emma Kenney gathered around the familiar kitchen table on set, looking over the script.

The network swiftly canceled the hit revival of Roseanne in May after Barr tweeted racist comments about Valerie Jarett, a former top adviser to President Obama. Within a month ABC moved forward with The Conners, which will reportedly explain away Barr's absence by killing off her character Roseanne Conner.

Although ABC has yet to say how Barr will be written out of the show, but Goodman suggested in a recent interview that his character Dan Conner will likely be "mopey and sad because his wife’s dead.”

Inspired by Barr's own standup comedy, Roseanne originally aired from 1988 to 1997 on ABC, and is typically ranked among the greatest television sitcoms of all time. It was revived last year for a nine-episode 10th season, which earned high ratings, resulting in a Season 11 renewal before its ultimate cancellation.

The Conners will lead off ABC’s Tuesday schedule beginning Oct. 16, with Nathan Fillion’s new series The Rookie, about the oldest police trainee in Los Angeles, capping off the night.
