Congresswoman Dresses as Batgirl for Impeachment Vote

Everyone loves Halloween, even politicians.

Rep. Katie Porter of California dressed up as Batgirl for the impeachment vote that took place on the spooky evening. The congresswoman voted "yes" on impeachment, but it was her costume that stole the show and quickly went viral.

One person confronted Representative Porter, asking her if she would pay Alfred minimum wage and if selling the Batmobile could pay for government initiatives such as the Green New Deal.

Others were more hostile, seeing the costume as a mockery of the proceedings that were occurring that day.

Others were more receptive to the costume. "I cannot imagine looking at this and thinking anything other than how fun Katie Porter must be," Emily Stewart, a reporter for Vox, wrote.

Porter herself eventually responded to the critics. "Taking my work in Congress seriously doesn't mean I take myself too seriously. To my kids Luke, Paul, and Betsy, I'm still just Mom — seeing the Bat Signal on Halloween & putting on a goofy costume come with the territory," she wrote. "

"Stay safe trick-or-treating tonight, everyone!" she concluded.
