According to Variety, West is described as "the tough-as-nails journalist and friend of Barry Allen, the alter ego of the Flash" in the movie.

Before Famuyiwa was attached to the project, Seth Grahame-Smith was hired to write and direct "The Flash," until parting ways with Warner Bros. over creative differences. Regardless, Grahame-Smith's most recent draft, based on a treatment by "The LEGO Movie's" Phil Lord and Chris Miller, is being used for the script.
