Titan Comics is returning to the Hyborian Age with a brand-new creative team behind Conan.

CBR can exclusively reveal that Titan Comics, working alongside entertainment studio Heroic Signatures, will be co-publishing a new, ongoing Conan the Barbarian comic book series. Launching in July 2023, the series will see the return of longtime Conan scribe Jim Zub (Thunderbolts, Uncanny Avengers), and feature the artwork of illustrator Roberto De La Torre (King-Size Conan, Iron Man: Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and colorist José Villarrubia (Promethea, Sweet Tooth). Sharing a first look at De La Torre's art for the title, Titan promises, "This will kick off a brand-new, exhilarating series of comics of characters from across the Conan and wider Robert E. Howard mythos!"

Conan Makes the Move From Marvel to Titan

The new series marks the beginning of Conan's tenure at Titan Comics, who acquired the publishing rights to the property after Marvel decided against renewing them with the Heroic Signatures-owned Conan Properties International. Created by Robert E. Howard back in 1932 for a fantasy series originally published in Weird Tales, Conan of Cimmeria and his fellow heroes of the Hyborian Age have been the center of countless novels, films and comic books. Marvel Comics previously held the license for the character in the 1970s, and reintroduced Conan to the Marvel Universe upon reacquiring the license in 2018.

Conan has played a prominent role in various Marvel titles since his return, and behaves as the impetus behind more than one Savage Avengers series. Along with the Hyborian Age hero himself, classic Conan villains such as the evil sorcerers Thulsa Doom and Kulan Gath have gone on to make their own debuts in the Marvel Universe. Following the team's latest battle against Thulsa Doom in Savage Avengers, Conan was given the opportunity to return to his own time, providing the character with an easy exit from the Marvel timeline without having to rewrite or retcon any of his previous adventures.

A New Conan Omnibus Is On the Way

Along with the upcoming Conan the Barbarian series, Titan Comics will also be releasing the next omnibus in the massively popular line of hardcover collections previously published by Marvel. Titan picks up the line with Savage Sword of Conan Volume 9 in Fall 2023. The omnibus edition will feature remastered archives from the original series, and promises to "delight longtime collectors and new fans of the Conan franchise."

Conan the Barbarian goes on sale in July 2023. The Savage Sword of Conan Volume 9 Omnibus goes on sale sometime in Fall 2023.
