Roy Thomas is returning to write Conan The Barbarian after 50 years. Thomas will be joined by several all-star writers and artists for King-Size Conan #1, which features five tales celebrating the eponymous Cimmerian.

Thomas will be joined by artist Steve McNiven, as he writes a prequel to the events of the first Conan comic. "What I wanted to do is get from the first battle Conan had to a time just a few months later when he met the Aesir, which is really about where CONAN #1 starts," Thomas told Newsarama in an interview. "I thought it would be nice to show what happened just before CONAN #1, at least in my mind, with some nice action along the way."

Thomas was one of the writers for the original run of Conan, which ran from 1970 to 2000. In total, he wrote 115 issues out of the 650 issue run. Marvel posted preview pages from Thomas and McNiven's story to its official website.

Other tales in King-Size Conan #1 feature the creative talents of Chris Claremont and Roberto de la Torre, as well as Kurt Busiek and Pete Woods. The special will also feature the first Marvel work from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman and Daredevil showrunner Steve DeKnight, who will pen a tale illustrated by Jesus Saiz. de la Torre and Saiz's artwork was also displayed on Marvel's website.

King-Size Conan #1 goes on sale in December from Marvel.
