Following a guest turn on Fox's "X-Files" revival, "Community" alum Joel McHale has landed the lead role in a new CBS comedy pilot.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the former host of "The Soup" will star in "The Great Indoors" as Joel, a guy's-guy adventure reporter who, after a life of excitement, is forced by an injury to take a desk job in the magazine's social media department. There, he's surrounded by millennials who view him as an ancient oddity.

The project, created by "Tosh.0's" Mike Gibbons, marks McHale's first full-time gig since "The Soup" concluded its 12-year run in December.
