The first Wednesday of November has no shortage of great comics, but here are our favorites. DC Comics continues the epic story arc “City of Bane” as Tom King comes closer to ending his run on one of the biggest titles currently being published. Also, the biggest superhero team DC has to offer gets an all new ongoing sieres.

Image Comics wraps up its first story arc in one of the strangest comics on the newsstands, and readers gets a glimpse of dystopian version of the United States in an all new ongoing series from Scott Snyder, Charles Soule, and Guiseppe Camuncoli. Marvel Comics kicks off a shocking and violent new series under the “Dawn of X” banner, starring the X-Men’s proactive mutant strike team.

5 Batman #82

By: Tom King, Mikel Janin, Jordie Bellaire, Clayton Cowles, David Finch, and Alex Sinclair

Comixology

If you’re looking for a fight, you’ve found it. The Bat and the Cat have chewed their way through the Rogues Gallery occupying Gotham City (with a little help from their friends). But two giant factors are still at play: Thomas Wayne and the driving force behind it all in Bane.

Batman #82 gives us the showdown between the World’s Greatest Detective and one of his most deadly villains in the eighth installment of the appropriately named “City of Bane.” Tom King and Mikel Janin are giving it their all in what might be the most exciting installment of this story arc yet.

4 Legion of Super-Heroes #1

By: Brian Michael Bendis, Ryan Sook, Wade Von Grawbadger, Jordie Bellaire, and Dave Sharpe

Comixology

The greatest superhero team of the 31st century is back in proper form. Legendary writer Brian Michael Bendis (Action Comics, Superman) and artist Ryan Sook (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) have given new life to one of the most endearing and populated superhero teams of all time with an all new ongoing series in Legion of Super-Heroes #1.

After a nasty skirmish with Mordru, a handful of Legionnaires stumble upon an ancient artifact that was thought to be lost for a millennium: Aquaman’s Trident! With plenty of heart, humor, and colorful characters, Legion of Super-Heroes #1 is a welcomed return.

3 Coffin Bound #4

By: Dan Watters, Dani, Brad Simpson, and Aditya Bidikar

Comixology

Coffin Bound has been one of the boldest, weirdest, and simply gorgeous books Image Comics introduced this year. The first arc of Izzy’s odyssey has come to a big, bloody head in the double-sized Coffin Bound #4. This comic runs at a manic clip. Once you think you have things understood, each issue throws a curve ball, expanding lore and deepening emotional connection.

Dan Watters is doing the best writing of his career thus far and Dani’s artwork continues to be dynamic, impressionistic, and often abstract. There isn’t anything else like Coffin Bound on the shelf. Do yourself a favor and get on board if you haven’t already.

2 Undiscovered Country #1

By: Scott Snyder, Charles Soule, Guiseppe Camuncoli, Daniele Orlandini, Matt Wilson, and Crank!

Comixology

A deadly airborne virus is sweeping across the globe and countries have banded together to form massive empires all while the United States built walls and became more isolated. In what might be one the boldest political parables for our time, Undiscovered County #1 is a smart, exciting, and volatile debut issue from Image Comics.

Prolific writer Scott Snyder (Justice League, Wytches) and the creative team who brought us the criminally underrated second volume of Marvel Comics’ Star Wars: Darth Vader, Charles Soule and Guiseppe Camuncoli, have created a comic that might the start of something truly special in the graphic medium. To say any more would spoil the surprises this issue has in store.

1 X-Force #1

By: Benjamin Percy, Joshua Cassara, Dean White, VC's Joe Caramagna, Tom Muller, and Dustin Weaver

Comixology

As mutants around the world seek refuge in the island-nation of Krakoa, outside forces begin to conspire against the new utopia. Writer Benjamin Percy (Wolverine: The Long Night) and artist Joshua Cassara (Falcon) reignite the flame and call to arms for Marvel Comics mutant hit squad in X-Force #1.

Filled with insane twists, shocking violence, and political intrigue, this debut issue is the strangest offering “Dawn of X” has produced thus far. If nothing else, this issue illustrated that sadly, the road to peace is often paved in dead. After all, a new nation means new enemies.
