Marvel Comics celebrates a huge milestone with a 90-page Goliath and Jonathan Hickman pushes the X-Men out of the nest for one big mission. And from Valiant Comics we see a new trippy series that is smart, funny, and gorgeously illustrated. It’s Wednesday. Do you know what’s on your pull list?

5 Batman: Curse of the White Knight #2

By: Sean Murphy, Matt Hollingsworth, and AndWorld Design

Comixology

What is arguably the best series DC Comics Black Label has to offer, Batman: Curse of the White Knight #2 ups the danger for Batman even further when one of the Dark Knight’s most notorious adversaries hits Bruce Wayne where it hurts.

Masterfully executed by comic book virtuoso Sean Murphy, Batman: Curse of the White Knight #2 is nothing short of a triumph in blockbuster graphic story telling. From fascinating history lessons to explosion action, there isn’t a wasted panel in this issue. If this isn’t already on your radar, you may want to change that. Pure comic book bliss.

4 Batman/Superman #1

By: Joshua Williamson, David Marquez, Alejandro Sanchez, and John J. Hill

Comixology

The World’s Greatest Detective and the Earth’s Mightiest Champion are back together again in brand series in the pages of Batman/Superman #1. Spinning out from the pages of the miniseries The Batman Who Laughs, writer Joshua Williamson (Detective Comics) and artist David Marquez (Invincible Iron Man) explore the relationship between two heroes who have the same goal in mind, but view the world through wildly different lenses.

Strong dialogue, solid art work, and a twist ending is enough to pull in even casual fans of the either flagship superhero. From this issue alone, it’s apparent this series has the potential to be something truly special.

3 House of X #3

By: Jonathan Hickman, Pepe Larraz, Marte Gracia, VC’s Clayton Cowles, and Tom Muller

Comixology

Scott knows the score, and he’s marching into the heart of danger with a squad of mutants to pull off a mission that could change everything. At the half point of Jonathan Hickman’s grand reimaging of the X-Men Universe, we are essentially back to basics. The X-Men have a mission and it involves the devastating mutant-hunting machines, The Sentinels.

Pepe Larraz continues to impress with wonderful artwork and fluid breakdowns, which just get better with each passing issue. We’re sure we sound like a broken record at this point, but House of X (along with Powers of X) is a must read for any X-Men fan.

2 Marvel Comics #1000

By: Various, cover by Alex Ross

Comixology

In what might be the biggest comic book milestones of all time, Marvel Comics #1000 has brought together eighty creative teams to forge a narrative that touches every nook and cranny of the Marvel Universe in celebration of 80 years of excellence.

For long time comic book fans or newcomers who may not be familiar with the legacy of a titan in the medium, Marvel Comics #1000 is joy to read cover to cover. The larger narrative of this single issue is steeped in lore dating back to the '30s and the fact it continues to resonate with readers today is nothing short of a miracle. This is 90 pages of pure “Excelsior!”

1 Doctor Mirage #1

By: Magdalene Visaggio, Nick Robles, Jordie Bellaire, Dave Sharpe, and Philip Tan

Comixology

Doctor Shan Fong Mirage can speak with the dead, but when her powers stop working, she’s forced to reconcile with the possibility of nefarious outside influences. How her greatest gift/curse can be reignited may be found in the mind of spunky teenager…and a heavy dose of narcotics.

Gorgeously illustrated by Nick Robles and written with a smart and funny sense of urgency by Magdalene “Mags” Visaggio, Doctor Mirage #1 is the beginnings of bold new series that anyone who has even the mildest fascination of what lies beyond the veil should add to their pull list.
