Fantastic Four #46
Man, I reeeeeeeeeeeeally did not want to go with this issue for this number. I got as far as to start writing an explanation for why I was going with Doctor Strange #46, the first issue of Roger Stern's awesome second run on the series. I was going to explain that while yes, technically this should probably be Fantastic Four #46. That issue is the second issue featuring the Inhumans, it has a great Kirby cover and it is a great issue, period.
But that it'd be a bit boring to see the same book go over and over again, so I would give the nod to Doctor Strange #46.
However, I just couldn't bring myself to do it - if this was #47, then probably. Or #44 or #43 or #42, etc. Those are all great issues (this is in the midst of a stunning run by Kirby and Lee, where they just kicked the book into high gear for a year and half between the late 30s and mid 50s), but they don't stand out the way #46 does, including the famous cover, which was even homaged by Kirby himself a year or so after this issue!
So sorry, Roger Stern, your run on Doctor Strange WAS awesome, but I just don't think it it compares enough to Fantastic Four #46 on the memorable scale. If only your run began with issue #47...
Other notable #46s - Justice League of America #46 was a cool JLA/JSA team-up, Justice League America #46 was a great issue introducing General Glory and Amazing Spider-Man #46 introduced The Shocker.
And the usual suspects of Cerebus #46, Swamp Thing #46, Sandman #46 and Doom Patrol #46 are out there, too!
