2022 was filled with amazing comics from every publisher, giving fans of all different genres plenty to read for the year. However, 2023 is shaping up to be just as amazing for comic book fans. Over at Marvel, new series are bringing back major heroes who haven't spent much time in the spotlight, recently.

Meanwhile, over at DC, the company appears to be gearing up to move past the Infinite Frontier era. The Dawn of DC will bring 20 different ongoing series over the year, giving fans plenty to look forward to. As ever, there's also more to comics than the Big Two, so there's no better time to be a comic book fan.

But it's not just them, Image has proven they've still got tons of amazing comics for fans to dig into, including the return of one of the most popular solo writers in the game as Robert Kirkman comes back to the game. This list has been updated for fans looking for more upcoming comics and information.

17 Loki

June 7th

Recently, Loki has enjoyed a better position in Asgard since he's become the God of Stories instead of being the God of Lies. However, his new miniseries seeks to make him confront another part of his history he's been running away from.

This time, Loki's reminded of some of his most dangerous weapons, all of which could easily bring about Ragnarok if he isn't careful. Writer Dan Watters seeks to take everyone's favorite mischievous Asgardian around the Marvel Universe while he works to fix a problem he created for himself.

16 Cyborg

It's been a few years since Cyborg had his own solo series, but with Dawn of the DC he's getting a miniseries starting in May. Once again, Cyborg finds himself back in his home, where he's able to get in touch with himself once again. There are no Titans or Titans Academy, no Justice League.

There's just Victor Stone, the man behind the hero. Just as Cyborg arrives, a new business in Detroit is making some dangerous advances in artificial intelligence that will require him to get back into action. As if that wasn't enough, he'll also have to deal with a robot claiming to be his dad.

15 Void Rivals

When an industry giant like Robert Kirkman starts a new project, everyone's paying attention. Void Rivals is the new series coming from both Kirkman and artist Lorenzo De Felici. The focus is on two pilots from neighboring planets that are caught in an unending war who land on a seemingly deserted planet.

With no other option if they want to make it off, the two of them are forced to work together, but what else will the two discover while on the planet? Void Rivals is described as the beginning of a shared universe, so fans should strap in, because things will only get more wild.

14 Steelworks

In June, John Henry Irons gets a new solo comic for the first time in decades. These days, John Henry's life has been busier than it's ever been, as he tries to take his company Steelworks to the next level, while doing the same with his relationship with Lana Lang.

With John Henry Irons' niece Natasha doing an excellent job as Steel, he's even beginning to think of retiring from the superhero business. Of course, it never quite works out that way for heroes, and John soon finds himself pulled right back into the life.

13 Ultimate Invasion

The Ultimate Universe was once one of the most important parts of Marvel Comics' publishing line. Though the universe was "ended" in the aftermath of Secret Wars, Jonathan Hickman has returned to bring the universe back to life with the miniseries Ultimate Invasion.

When the corrupt Reed Richards known as the Maker seeks to recreate the universe, the Illuminati must reform in the hopes of stopping his scheme. Meanwhile, with the Maker planning to erase Earth's Mightiest Heroes altogether, will it even be possible to stop him? Though the Ultimate Universe might not be what it once was to Marvel, fans of that era will want to check this miniseries out.

12 Incredible Hulk

A new Hulk run begins in June, and they're going back to the classic Incredible Hulk title as well. This time around, Action Comics' Philip Kennedy Johnson is taking over the Hulk for a while, alongside artist Nic Klein. From the looks of things, the book seeks to go right back to the horror elements that made Immortal Hulk such a success.

The first issue is starting out with the Hulk trying to take over Bruce Banner's body, as they suddenly find themselves under attack by enemies everywhere. Hulk fans can hopefully look forward to the Jade Giant being elevated to greater heights than ever.

11 Battle Chasers

Battle Chasers really shouldn't exist. After quickly becoming one of the most popular comic books on the shelves, the comic went on hiatus after nine issues and disappeared for twenty years. However, creator Joe Madureira, alongside artist Ludo Lullabi, has found the time between working on video games to put out more stories about this unique cast of characters.

Battle Chasers starts a new arc with its tenth issue, this time showing the team come up against a dangerous group of enemies known as the Martial Paladins. Though the comic world has changed drastically since this released, great comics never go out of style.

10 Starsigns

Coming from Black Bolt's Saladin Ahmed and Star Trek's Megan Levens is Starsigns, a new series from Image Comics. Everything begins when the zodiac constellations fall to Earth and grant people superhuman powers.

Each person is from a drastically different walk of life, but they're all connected by the powers of their Starsigns. Described as a book about found family in the vein of classic X-Men and Heroes, Starsigns seems like a book that will speak to fans who are exhausted with how complex the X-Universe has gotten over the years.

9 City Boy

As a result of Lazarus Planet, DC has several new heroes roaming around in their world. One such hero is City Boy, or Cameron Kim. Cameron has the unique ability to speak to cities, and he uses that power to find hidden items in the city he can steal.

It's a tough job, but Cameron survives nonetheless. The only problem is, as he keeps training with his powers, they keep getting stronger, and he's beginning to see the actual avatars of cities who can travel with him. Having Greg Pak working on a brand-new hero in the DC Universe makes for exciting times.

8 Superman: Lost

If people weren't sure what to make of Superman: Lost when it was being pitched, it didn't take long before people realized that Christopher Priest and Carlo Pagulayan only make hits. The first issue showed Superman coming back in seemingly an instant to the planet Earth, while to him, it had been twenty years since he'd last been home.

The next few issues of Superman: Lost look to recount what Superman was up to while trapped in space for two decades. To begin with, he first reaches a planet that completely redefines what Superman believes his powers are capable of.

7 Spirit World

May 9th

Spirit World is one of three titles scheduled to come out of the Lazarus Planet event. From creators Alyssa Wong and Haining, Spirit World is a six issue miniseries about a new character named Xanthe. Wielding the power to travel between the Spirit World and the human world, Xanthe's story will feature both John Constantine and fan-favorite Batgirl, Cassandra Cain.

When Xanthe's work causes Cass Cain to get dragged into the Spirit World, it falls to both Xanthe and Constantine to bring her back. Fans looking for more adventures from Cassandra Cain will doubtlessly find plenty to love with this series.

6 Avengers

Gifted with the knowledge of some dangerous disasters known as The Tribulation Events, the Earth's Mightiest Heroes will be forced to prove if they can protect not just their world, but the entire universe. With new villains and new twists and turns coming, the new ongoing is sure to be one of Marvel Comics' biggest series of the year.

5 Green Arrow

April 25th

After months off the stands, Green Arrow returns in April as a miniseries from Joshua Williamson and Sean Izaakse. After discovering Green Arrow's "death" during Death of the Justice League isn't real, his family has gone on the hunt for him.

This new book sends several members of Green Arrow's family on this search for Oliver Queen, as both Roy and Dinah scour the globe for him. With the series seemingly promising to bring back beloved characters like Connor Hawke and Mia Dearden, Green Arrow is poised to be the ultimate fanservice series for longtime fans of Green Arrow.

4 Titans

May 16th

New Teen Titans in Infinite Frontier

For now, the Justice League is out of action. In their place though, DC still has The Titans. From creators Tom Taylor and Nicola Scott, Titans is about the team learning to be the most important super-team in the DC Universe. With no Justice League around, the group will be tested by some of the most powerful villains in the DC Universe.

Fortunately, writer Tom Taylor has more than proven he knows what it takes to write the Titans with his run so far on the Nightwing ongoing. Though the Justice League won't be out of action for too long, it's nice to have the Titans back on the scene again.

3 Green Lantern

May 9th

Long-time fans of Green Lantern have plenty to look forward to in 2023. After several years with only one Green Lantern series, DC is finally planning to expand the franchise. Green Lantern: Hal Jordan and Green Lantern: John Stewart will both find their way to shelves in 2023.

While Green Lantern: Hal Jordan will bring Hal back to Earth to get him into traditional superhero adventures, Green Lantern: John Stewart aims to show John as the military-trained leader he's always been. Though there are still a ton of Earth Green Lanterns on the outs, for now just having more than one ongoing series is exciting.

2 Superboy: Man Of Tomorrow

April 18th

In April, DC finally gives Superboy fans what they've been begging for and allows Conner Kent to have his own comic book again. Thanks to the hero winning the 2022 DC Round Robin tournament, Superboy is getting his own miniseries in Superboy: The Man of Tomorrow.

This new miniseries sees Superboy try to figure out his place in the world after reappearing in a heavily retconned universe. In this new reality, there's already a young Superman and the Super-Family is larger than ever. Now that the pressure's off his shoulders, everyone's eager to see who Conner will chose to become.

1 Shazam!

May 2nd

In June, Mark Waid teams up with Dan Mora to bring fans their version of DC's Shazam! This time around, Billy's back to being the champion of Shazam. However, unlike most Shazam stories lately, it doesn't look like dour adventures are on the horizon.

Instead, Shazam's focusing on a young superhero still trying to gain experience and be the best hero he can be. With the restrictions off him, Billy's able to turn the Rock of Eternity into a secret clubhouse and hang out with his best pal, Tawky Tawny. Fans of Billy Batson will have a lot to look forward to in June.
