With the CW’s Arrowverse currently converging on the large crowds at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, there’s no better time to look back on some of fan-favorite Arrowverse shows and see how they stack up compared to their comic book counterparts. One of the ways to do this is to take a look at the Legends of Tomorrow and their on-screen costumes.

While some of the characters aboard the Waverider have taken liberties with their comic book looks, many characters over the years have showcased truly remarkable looks. Let’s take a look at ten comic book accurate costumes.

10 Stargirl

While it’s not likely that fans will see this first hero back on the show now that she has her own show on the DC Universe streaming service, Stargirl has to be the first hero from Legends of Tomorrow who showcased a truly comic book accurate look.

In the second season of the show, fans were treated with a look at the original superhero team of the DC Universe, the Justice Society of America. Courtney Whitmore, aka Stargirl, was one of the members of the team and traveled back in time to protect a fragment of the spear of destiny.

9 Vixen

One hero that is truly unique in the Arrowverse has to be Vixen. While an animated series and the show Arrow established a modern-day version of the character named Mari, the most notable version has to be Amaya Jiwe, the Vixen of Justice Society of America and longtime team member of the Legends of Tomorrow.

While her costume coloration is a bit of an inverse of her comic book counterpart, (mostly black with some yellow on the show as opposed to mostly yellow and some black in the comics), the design and especially totem necklace are truly comic accurate.

8 Citizen Cold

A major concept of the Arrowverse has to be the multiverse, which has been explored extensively across many different shows. One major example of this came during the annual crossover event, which two seasons ago was known as Crisis on Earth-X. Fighting evil versions of themselves, Green Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl met with some resistance members along with the Legends, including the Earth-X version of Leonard Snart.

Known as Leo on Earth-X, he became the hero Citizen Cold and fought the evil oppressors of his world, later joining the Legends team for a time to help.

7 Jonah Hex

Taking a deep dive into the DC Universe catalog, the Legends of Tomorrow introduced a hero from the old west who also knew about time travel and the larger DC Universe off and on, and that was none other than bounty hunter Jonah Hex.

Capturing his scarred look and old west costume, the character was a huge fan favorite of the show’s early years. An associate of season one leader Rip Hunter, Hex is known for helping the Legends stop misplaced time criminals and threats to the timeline, and the show did a wonderful job of bringing him to life.

6 The Ray

One of the more unique characters to appear on the Legends of Tomorrow was not only part of the Crisis on Earth-X crossover event, but originated in the Earth-1 universe that a majority of the Arrowverse shows take place on. That character is The Ray, a hero on both Earths.

Named Raymond Terrill, Ray was a young man hiding his sexuality and working odd jobs until his doppelganger from Earth-X arrived, granting him the powers of The Ray. Using his powers to help others, he eventually arrived on Earth-X, fighting the war and marrying Leo Snart.

5 Firestorm

Another fan-favorite character that appeared in the first few seasons of the show has to be Firestorm, the transmuted pairing of Jefferson Jackson and Professor Martin Stein. After Dr. Stein’s first partner in the Firestorm matrix Ronnie Raymond fell in battle during the finale of The Flash’s first season, Team Flash found Jefferson was a match and helped recreate Firestorm.

Joining the Legends during their first few years of adventures, Jefferson shortly left the team after Dr. Stein fell in battle during the Crisis on Earth-X storyline. The characters classic yellow and red costume was always on display.

4 Obsidian

Probably the most comic accurate costume of any of the JSA members to appear on Legends of Tomorrow has to be Obsidian. Also known by his citizen identify of Todd Rice, Obsidian has the unique ability to create shadows and envelope his surroundings in darkness. He can also dematerialize into a smoke-like substance, and use the darkness he creates to form a protective suit around himself as well as create tendrils to fight off villains.

In the series, Obsidian sports his iconic black suit and coverage of his face, and becomes one of the last survivors of the JSA.

3 Wally West

One of the best costumes that comes straight out of the comic books has to be the addition of Wally West during season 3 of the show. Otherwise known as Kid Flash, Wally is the younger half-brother to Iris West and a powerful speedster all on his own.

Gaining his powers during The Flash’s third season in a plot by Savitar to replace himself with Wally inside his Speed Force prison, Wally eventually joined the Legends in a battle against the evil Mallus. He sports his heroic yellow and red Kid Flash suit familiar to legions of Flash fanatics.

2 Sara Lance

One of the strongest, most heroic and fan-favorite characters on the Legends of Tomorrow has to be the Waverider’s current captain, Sara Lance. Sister to the late Laurel Lance and a former member of the League of Assassins, Sara was brought back to life after losing her life and learned to control her anger and violent tendencies and turned them into a force for good instead.

Now as the leader of the Legends, Sara makes the tough calls and leads the team into battle weekly. She sported her iconic White Canary look for most of the series thus far.

1 John Constantine

Of all the heroes to join the Legends over the show’s history, none had the look and accuracy of a comic book costume more than John Constantine. Played by Matt Ryan, who brought the character to life on his own show on NBC and later on Arrow, joined the Legends when a young girl he was trying to exorcise a demon from turned out to be Damien Darhk’s daughter Nora.

He later joined the team full time in season 4, battling the demonic nemesis Neron who attempted to make Earth a hellish landscape by releasing magical creatures into the world.
