Comic Shop Locator Service usage spikes after massive press coverage

Official Press Release

The Comic Shop Locator Service (CSLS) experienced an impressive upsurge of calls to its toll-free line following Marvel Comics Editor in Chief Joe Quesada's appearance on the October 17 edition of NBC's top-rated Today Show. During Quesada's segment, the toll-free CSLS number was prominently shown to a sizable nationwide television audience.

The number's appearance on the Today Show had an immediate effect on the CSLS, which received 10,449 calls and gave out 26,366 referrals in October alone. These numbers reflect a jump in usage of approximately 75% over September 2001 and October 2000, which posted 2,581 calls/6,514 referrals and 2,323 calls/6,680 referrals, respectively.

"The CSLS phone number and its Internet counterpart (at http://csls.diamondcomics.com) are the very best ways for curious consumers to find a comic book specialty store near them," said Diamond Marketing Communications Manager Barry Lyga. "The phenomenal success of Heroes and the concurrent dramatic increase in phone calls shows that this system works, bringing new readers into stores. We're grateful to the retailers who participate in the Service, and to the many publishers and manufacturers who support it."
