COMIC REEL: Rumors Name “Dark Phoenix Saga” As Next X-Men Film; “Jessica Jones'” Darville To Appear In “Defenders”

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE

Heroic Hollywood has heard rumors from an unnamed source that the X-Men film following “Apocalypse” will retell “The Dark Phoenix Saga.” The storyline was already loosely adapted in a way in 2006’s “X-Men: The Last Stand,” but the timeline-reset that happened in “X-Men: Days of Future Past” could lead to the franchise executing a different take on that story — if the rumor pans out. Director Bryan Singer has hinted at something “darker” growing inside Jean Grey.

Fox has released a new promo done in the style of the ’80s mystery docu-series “In Search Of…” that focuses on Apocalypse.

ARROW

While speaking with TV Line, “Arrow” producers Marc Guggenheim and Wendy Mericle spoke about the flashbacks and the role they will continue to play in season five.

“Part of the appeal of the flashbacks — certainly in the first two years, but I think the first three years — is seeing what a big difference it is between Oliver Queen in the present day and Oliver Queen five years ago,” said Guggenheim. “The problem is that we are telling a five-year story in the flashbacks of Oliver becoming the guy you met in the pilot. So the deeper you get into the flashbacks, the closer he becomes to being that guy, and, thus, you lose that element of the flashbacks that was so interesting, which is how different he was…. That’s something we have struggled with this year.”

“The way we write the story is still very much married to that backstory, and trying to change it up at this point would feel weird,” added Mericle. “We know what we’re working up to. The season will be easier to break because we have an endpoint, and we work backwards from there.”

Airs Wednesdays on the CW

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

THE DEFENDERS

Spoiler TV caught up with “Jessica Jones” cast member Eka Darville and asked if he would appear in “The Defenders.”

“Yes. I will be in it. I’m not sure how much yet but I will be in it,” replied Darville, thus confirming that his character Malcolm will appear in the team-up mini-series.

FEAR THE WALKING DEAD

You can read a recap of last night’s episode, “We All Fall Down,” right here on CBR. AMC has also released a promo and clip from next week’s ep, “Ouroboros.”

“FTWD” star Lorenzo James Henrie spoke with CBR about the show as well as his ambitions to branch out into other comic properties.

“Oh yeah. There are two big ones,” said Henrie. “I love ‘The Flash’ and would love to do anything on that show. And then recently I got to be friends with Stan Lee! We met at a con last year, and then we sat next to each other on the plane afterwords. Getting to know him and catch up with him has been so cool, and I’d love to be in the new Spider-Man reboot. I actually auditioned for a role. I don’t know if I’m allowed to say that, but I hope it can go further. [Laughs]”

JUSTICE LEAGUE

Collider spoke with J.K. Simmons about his upcoming role as Commissioner Gordon in “Justice League.”

“Obviously, a lot of really wonderful actors have played that character previously, and most of them I saw at the time the movies came out, never imagining that I would be doing the same thing,” Simmons said, noting that while he might be influenced by what he remembers from those actors’ takes, “I’m not planning on going back and watching any of the other films… I’m just planning on learning as much as I can about him through the comics and getting my feet wet in the first movie, and then hopefully continuing on from there.”
