BOX OFFICE REPORT
The Hollywood Reporter has posted domestic and worldwide box office gross for the top ten global films this weekend. “Guardians of the Galaxy” was first overall with $57.8 million in global gross, followed by “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” at $54 million. “The Expendables 3,” which debuted on August 15, came up fourth with $31.2 million in global box office take. In terms of domestic numbers, “Turtles” slightly outpaced “Guardians,” with “Expendables” coming in third.
STAR WARS: EPISODE VII
Entertainment Weekly spoke with “Star Wars: Episode VII” star Adam Driver about his experience joining the franchise, and a little bit of the sense of wonder that comes along with the film.
“The thing about ‘Star Wars’ that’s so good — sure there’s this huge [canvas]. It’s space, it’s a long time ago in a galaxy far away. That’s set up immediately,” Driver told EW. “But in the midst of all those things, what has made those movies last so long is that they’re all grounded, which is something that is not so far off from every movie with huge universal themes of siblings and parents and betrayal and trust. That’s so generic and obvious, but it’s hard to balance those things.”

The cast and crew of “Arrow” spoke with CBR News at Comic-Con 2014 about the big changes coming for season three — including the introduction of Ra’s Al Ghul.
“We wanted to do something that we hadn’t done before,” Andrew Kreisberg told CBR News. “With Malcolm, it was a very specific villain who had a very specific agenda. That was designed where they didn’t even necessarily know they were up against each other until the very end. In Season 2, Slade’s plan was all about revenge. It was personal. It was something he blamed Oliver for.
“For Season 3, we wanted a new challenge for Oliver. [Ra’s] really speaks to the emotional theme of the season, which is, ‘Can I be both the Arrow and Oliver Queen at the same time?’ The villain says to Oliver, ‘The reason you’re not able to fully be the Arrow and do the things you should be doing is because you’re still holding on to Oliver Queen. I’ve left my identity behind to full commit to my cause. If you did that, you could rise as high as I am.’ Knowing that was emotionally what we wanted to do, that was how we landed on [Ra’s].”
Returns October on The CW
Grant Gustin spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about his leading role as Barry Allen in “The Flash,” calling it “probably forever … my favorite character that I’ll ever get to play.”
“Barry doesn’t have many friends. Iris is definitely one of the only people who knows everything about Barry — well, she did up until the [particle accelerator] accident,” Gustin told CBR. “After the accident, Barry really wants to tell her how he feels. When he sees that she’s with Eddie, it makes it clearer to Barry how he feels because of how it makes him feel to see her with somebody else.”
“He wants to save the day,” Gustin continued about his character. “He wants to be a hero. He wants to prevent any child from going through what he went through, so he’s going to put that on his priority list before his love life. He’s not going to get in the middle of anything Iris has going and break her and Eddie up. He’s going to watch from the outside for now and hold off on telling her.”
Debuts October on The CW
“Constantine” has found its Papa Midnite. Michael James Shaw has been cast as the “formidable magical adversary” of John Constantine, previously played in the “Constantine” film by Djimon Hounsou. Shaw joins Matt Ryan, Harold Perrineau, Charles Halford and Angelica Celaya in the NBC drama.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON
Total Film Magazine (via Comic Book Movie) spoke with Stellan Skarsgard about the possibility of him returning as Dr. Erik Selvig for another film, and the actor confirmed he has a small role in “Avengers: Age of Ultron.”
“I’m going to be in ‘Avengers: Age Of Ultron,’ a small appearance. It’s something really nice,” Skarsgard told Total Film. “Even if it’s owned by Disney now, it’s really run by four or five people, and they know exactly what they’re doing. I like working with them because if I have a problem with the scene, I have Kevin Feige’s number. I can call the head of the studio. You can’t do that when you work on a normal Disney film or with Warner Bros or Paramount.”
