Hawkeye has long been one of Marvel's greatest heroes - the master of one of humanity's oldest weapons. He's put his life on the line alongside super soldiers, gods, and superpowered titans, doing his best to save as many people as possible. He's led both the Avengers and Thunderbolts, fought some of the most dangerous villains. He deserves his spot amongst Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

While he's the inspiration for the Marvel Cinematic Universe version, he's very different. Many of these differences would make comic Hawkeye hate his MCU counterpart, out of a sense of jealousy or disgust.

10 He'd Hate His MCU's Counterpart's Lack Of Humor

Hawkeye with his bow and arrows

Hawkeye has been through a lot of dark things, but he's always kept his sense of humor. Comic Hawkeye is one of the funniest Avengers and his humorous nature has often gotten him in trouble with his teammates. This is a far cry from MCU Hawkeye, whose dry sarcasm and long suffering attitude isn't nearly the same. In fact, comic Hawkeye talks more like an MCU character than MCU Hawkeye does.

Comic Hawkeye would not like this. MCU Hawkeye has his moments, but the fact that he is so humorless would annoy comic Hawkeye to an extreme degree.

9 He'd Be Jealous That MCU Hawkeye Never Got Killed By Scarlet Witch

Death of Hawkeye

Comics can be a harsh mistress, especially to B-list superheroes without their own solo books. Hawkeye is usually in this boat and it came back to bite him during Avengers Disassembled. Scarlet Witch attacked the team and Hawkeye was one of the casualties, sacrificing his life to save his team members. Even though he was resurrected, it was a traumatic experience.

The fact that this never happened to MCU Hawkeye would rankle comic Hawkeye immensely. It was an experience that changed Hawkeye for a long time, and he would be jealous it didn't happen to another version of him.

8 He's Be Very Angry That MCU Hawkeye Couldn't Save Black Widow

Black Widow and Hawkeye in Avengers: Endgame

Hawkeye and Black Widow have a close relationship in both the comics and the MCU. They worked together a lot in both universes. Black Widow in the comics brought Hawkeye into the superhero/supervillain game. In the MCU, Hawkeye was the one who got Black Widow out of the Red Room's custody and over to SHIELD.

If comic Hawkeye found out that his MCU counterpart was unable to save Black Widow and sacrifice himself in her place, it would not be fun for MCU Hawkeye. Comic Hawkeye has sacrificed himself to save his friends, so it would anger him that his MCU counterpart couldn't.

7 He Wouldn't Like The Way That MCU Hawkeye Treated Kate Bishop At First

Kate Bishop and Clint Barton as spies in Madripoor

In the comics, Hawkeye met Kate Bishop after his return to life and they hit it off. The two made an amazing team almost from the word go and got along famously. In the MCU, Hawkeye treated Kate terribly at first. While he did warm up to her, comic Hawkeye wouldn't be happy about it.

Hawkeye respects Kate. Learning that MCU him was so dismissive of her and her feelings would probably a start a fight between the two, one that MCU Hawkeye would certainly lose.

6 His MCU Counterpart's Nonchalance About Killing Would Bother Him A Lot

Hawkeye as Ronin in Endgame

Even though he's armed with a bow and arrow, a weapon that that can be rather lethal, Hawkeye in the comics isn't much of a killer. Most of his trick arrows are non-lethal. But he's such a good marksman, he can hit anyone anywhere. Even as Ronin, he wasn't much of a killer.

MCU Hawkeye is a killer. He killed for SHIELD. He killed Hydra agents while the Avengers were taking down their bases. He also killed plenty of criminals as Ronin. Comic Hawkeye wouldn't respect how easily his MCU self was able to commit so many murders.

5 He'd Be Jealous That MCU Hawkeye Got To Fight Alongside Captain America In Captain America: Civil War

Captain-America-Civil-War-Hawkeye Cropped

Civil War and Captain America: Civil War were both important in their respective universes. Both involved the heroes battling it out over an ideological divide between Captain America and Iron Man. In the comics, Hawkeye was dead - but after his resurrection, he and Iron Man had it out.

In the MCU, Hawkeye got to fight alongside Captain America, something that comic Hawkeye never had a chance to do. This would make comic Hawkeye very jealous, as he always wants to be there to help Cap.

4 He Wouldn't Like MCU Hawkeye Abandoning His Friends After The Blip

Hawkeye

Hawkeye is one of Marvel's bravest heroes and never runs from a fight. He's not the type to go on wild, endless revenge sprees. So MCU Hawkeye's actions after the Blip would make comic Hawkeye hate him. He understands revenge, but MCU Hawkeye becoming Ronin was a childish spree of acting out would mystify him.

When the world could use more heroes, MCU Hawkeye abandoned all of that in order to go on a killing spree. Comic Hawkeye would hate this about his other self, as he never would have done anything like that.

3 He'd Find His Counterpart's Way Of Fighting Cowardly

Hawkeye Clint Barton

In the comics, Hawkeye has been on the frontlines against some powerful villains. While his long range weapon means he doesn't have to get in close with his foes, Hawkeye was never about doing things the easy way. He took the fight directly to them, as he was just as good with his fists as anything else.

MCU Hawkeye is more of a soldier than a superhero - especially in the big battles, using his bow and arrow to take out foes. He plays to his strengths and while that's a smart way of fighting, comic Hawkeye would think it was cowardly.

2 He'd Hate That MCU Hawkeye Just Gave Up The Fight After Captain America: Civil War

Hawkeye and family in Avengers Endgame

Comics Hawkeye never gives up. It's one of his defining traits. He's a man with a bow and arrow who fights supervillains, gods, and monsters; giving up would mean death.

He never surrenders unless it's part of a plan. That's why his MCU counterpart giving up after Captain America: Civil War would anger him. Sure, MCU Hawkeye had his reasons, but none are good enough for comic Hawkeye. He'd have kept fighting against Iron Man.

1 He'd Be Very Jealous Of MCU Hawkeye's Family

Hawkeye Family Iron Man Funeral

Comic Hawkeye has had a lot of relationships, and most ended badly. Being with a superhero isn't easy, even for other superheroes. Hawkeye has always wanted the love of a wife and family, but has never been able to have that. MCU Hawkeye's family would make his comic book counterpart jealous. There's a good chance it would drive them to a fight because comic Hawkeye doesn't deal well with his emotions.
