With Preacher, Iron Fist, Fear the Walking Dead, Cloak & Dagger and Wynonna Earp airing over the summer, hardly a week has gone by that new episodes of a series based on a comic book haven't been available for viewing. However, the fall 2018 season of comics television officially begins next week with the return of Fox's The Gifted, and doesn't let up until late December, with the sophomore outing of Hulu's Runaways.

The lineup includes the returns of such old favorites as The Walking Dead, entering its ninth season, and Arrow, kicking off its seventh, as well as newcomers Titans and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, expanding the comics footprint on streaming services.

Below break down what to expect from the fall comics television schedule, and when.

The Gifted

The Gifted Season 2

Season 2 premieres Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox

Set in a world in which the X-Men disappeared following a 9/11-type event, The Gifted follows the Struckers, who are forced to flee the U.S. government after their teen children are publicly revealed to be mutants. They seek safety with the Mutant Underground, a network devoted to protecting mutants from Sentinel Services and a public that hates and fears them.

The first season ended with the Strucker family, and the Mutant Underground, split apart by conflicting ideologies, as Lorna Dane (Emma Dumont) and young Andy Strucker (Percy Hynes White) left with the troublesome Frost sisters (Skyler Samuels) to join the Inner Circle, the remnants of longtime X-Men foe the Hellfire Club.

Starring Stephen Moyer, Amy Acker, Natalie Alyn Lind, Percy Hynes White, Blair Redford, Jamie Chung, Emma Dumont, Sean Teale, Coby Bell, Skyler Samuels, and newcomer Grace Byers as Inner Circle member Reeva Payge, The Gifted has plenty of mysteries to still unravel, chief among them: What happened to the X-Men?

The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead Season 9 premiere

Season 9 premieres Sunday, Oct. 7, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on AMC

While still a ratings juggernaut, The Walking Dead has experienced a decline in viewership over the past few seasons. But the post-apocalyptic drama, which has discovered new ways to explore the comic book source material while deviating further than ever, is preparing to expand in a big way. Season 8 ended with Andrew Lincoln's Rick Grimes defeating Negan, and then making the controversial decision to jail the deadly foe instead of executing him.

The Walking Dead stars Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride, Lennie James, Alanna Masterson, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Season 5 premieres Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW

Over the years, Barry Allen has wreaked significant havoc with the time stream, so it only makes sense that someone else would return the favor: Nora West-Allen, the mysterious speedster who appeared throughout the fourth season, only to reveal herself as the time-traveling daughter of Barry and Iris West. Her arrival has unforeseen consequences on the times tream, forcing Barry and his allies into a difficult situation.

Further complicating matters is the arrival of Cicada (Chris Klein), a “blue-collar” villain driven by the loss of his family to kill every metahuman he can find. And with his ability to dampen superhuman powers and his lighting bolt dagger, he might be more dangerous than anyone expected.

The Flash stars Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker, Carlos Valdes, Jesse L. Martin, Hartley Swayer, Susan Walters, Chris Klein and Jessica Parker Kennedy.

Black Lightning

Riverdale

Riverdale Season 3

Season 3 premieres Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW

On of the craziest shows on television, Riverdale keeps raising the stakes with its Twin Peaks-style twist on classic Archie Comics characters. The second season ended with Archie Andrews arrested after being framed for a murder, and Betty Cooper trying to watch out for her mother and sister, who are becoming more entwined with a mysterious cult following the revelation that her father was the serial killer the Black Hood.

Veronica Lodge has broken away from her family in an attempt to forge her own life, while her father Hiram has basically built a Legion of Doom-style group out of the show's antagonists. Basically, everything’s ready to explode in the seemingly sleepy town of Riverdale, and it’s going to be a gloriously over-the-top experience.

Riverdale stars KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Madelaine Petsch, Casey Cott, Ashleigh Murray, Mädchen Amick, Luke Perry, Mark Consuelos and Marisol Nichols.

Titans

Titants TV

Season 1 premieres Friday, Oct. 12, on DC Universe

Kicking off the original content on the newly launched DC Universe streaming service, Titans offers a significantly darker take on the team of teenage superheroes than most viewers are accustomed to seeing. After breaking away from Batman, Dick Grayson, the original Robin, becomes embroiled in a conspiracy with troubled teen Rachel Roth, aka Raven, that could bring hell on Earth. They’re joined by Starfire and Beast Boy, and together they form a surrogate family and a team of heroes.

Supergirl

Supergirl Season 4

Season 4 premieres Sunday, Oct. 14, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW

Supergirl is confronted with a new status quo following her Season 3 battle with Reign, and the departures of allies Winn Schott and Mon-El, who traveled into the future. Kara opted to remain on Earth with Brainiac-5 (who's dealing a distance relative who's targeting A.I.), rather than returning to Argo with her mother. Her adoptive Alex has also been promoted as the new director for the DEO after J’onn headed back to Mars.

Rhona Mitra joins the cast in Season 4 as the fan-favorite Mercy Graves, who will play a major role in pushing National City’s “Human First” movement further into the culture. Doing so will play into the plans of new primary antagonist, Agent Liberty, played by Sam Witwer, founder of the Children of Liberty, a group that supports "a human-first world order."

Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist, Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, David Harewood, Katie McGrath, Jesse Rath, April Parker Jones, Nicole Maines, Rhona Mitra and Sam Witwer.

Arrow

Arrow Season 7

Season 7 premieres Monday, Oct. 15, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW

Oliver Queen is having a rough time at the opening of the seventh season of Arrow, The CW's flagship superhero drama. Over the course of the previous season, he revealed his dual identity as the vigilante Green Arrow, which resulted in him being sentenced to prison. The series picks up five months later, with Ollie still behind bars, alongside his enemies Derek Sampson, Bronze Tiger, and Brick. But there are some allies still fighting for Star City, including the newly returned Arsenal.

However, the biggest threat comes from Ricardo Diaz, who's come back to the city, and brought the Longbow Hunters with him. Among the more iconic Green Arrow villains, the Longbow Hunters constitute perhaps the greatest danger the heroes of Star City have ever confronted.

Arrow stars Stephen Amell, David Ramsey, Emily Bett Rickards, Echo Kellum, Rick Gonzalez, Juliana Harkavy, Katie Cassidy and Colton Haynes.

Daredevil

Daredevil Season 3

Season 3 arrives Friday, Oct. 19, on Netflix

Following the explosive events of Marvel's The Defenders, Matt Murdock is believed dead by his friends and allies, buried beneath the rubble of Midland Circle during the fight against The Hand. However, as viewers saw in the final moments of the Netflix miniseries, he somehow survived, to be nursed back to health by nuns in a scene taken straight for the seminal Daredevil comics storyline "Born Again."

Promotional materials have signaled a dark -- well, darker -- turn for the guardian of Hell's Kitchen, as he returns to his original black costume to "end evil," presumably his Season 1 nemesis Wilson Fisk, who's somehow (apparently) secured his release of prison.

Daredevil stars Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Vincent D’Onofrio, Wilson Bethel and Jay Ali.

DC's Legends of Tomorrow

Legends of Tomorrow Season 4

Season 4 premieres Oct. 22 on the CW, 9 PM EST

Perhaps the most unexpectedly, and consistently, enjoyable superhero series on The CW, DC's Legends of Tomorrow underwent significant changes in its third season, with the death of Martin Stein, the departures of Jax and Rip Hunter, and the return of Citizen Cold to his own alternate Earth.

Joining the ragtag group of time-traveling superheroes is John Constantine, played once again by Matt Ryan, who revealed that, by breaking time to stop the demon Mallus, the Wave Rider team has inadvertently opened the time stream to “fugitives” from other dimensions.

DC's Legends of Tomorrow stars Caity Lotz, Brandon Routh, Dominic Purcell, Nick Zano, Maise Richardson-Sellers, Amy Pemberton, Tala Ashe, Matt Ryan, Jes Macallan, Courtney Ford and Ramona Young.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

chilling adventures of sabrina

Season 1 arrives Friday, Oct. 26, on Netflix

From the creator of Riverdale comes another twisted take on classic Archie Comic characters, this time focusing on the magical world of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Although Sabrina Spellman has appeared on television multiple times over the decades, in both animated and live-action form, this is the darkest incarnation of the character yet.

Based on the Archie horror comic of the same name, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is a dark coming-of-age story that’s been compared tonally to Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist. In the series, Sabrina attempts to reconcile her dual nature — she’s half-witch, half-mortal — while standing against evil forces that threaten her, her family and the world inhabited by humans.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina stars Kiernan Shipka, Jaz Sinclair, Michelle Gomez, Chance Perdomo, Lucy Davis, Miranda Otto, Richard Coyle, Ross Lynch, Tati Gabrielle and Bronson Pinchot.

Runaways

Runaways

Season 2 arrives Friday, Dec. 21, on Hulu

Following a group of teens who discover that their parents may very well be evil, and at the center of a sinister conspiracy, the Season 1 finale of Marvel's Runaways sent the title characters on the lam after they were publicly, and wrongly, accused of horrendous crimes.

RELATED: Don't Expect Runaways to Cross Over With Cloak & Dagger Any Time Soon

The second season promises to move the Runaways to a base of operations familiar to readers of the Marvel comics: the Hostel, an abandoned, sunken mansion beneath Los Angeles' Griffith Park. It will also introduce more characters from the source material, although it's still unknown whether Victor Mancha, a kindhearted superhero fan who's revealed to be a robotic creation of Ultron, will be among them.

Runaways stars Rhenzy Feliz, Lyrica Okano, Virginia Gardner, Ariela Barer, Gregg Sulkin, Allegra Acosta, Julian McMahon, Angel Parker, Ryan Sands, Annie Wersching, Kip Pardue, Ever Carradine, Brigid Brannagh, Kevin Weisman, Brittany Ishibashi and James Yaegashi.
