After the piece I did a couple of weeks ago about whether the Hulk has ever lifted Thor's hammer, reader Darryl M. wrote in to ask:

Okay, so how about Iron Man? Who else HAS lifted it?

The first one is easy. The second one is a lot tougher! But read on for the answers, Darryl!

Let's get the Iron Man one out of the way first.

The only time that Iron Man lifted Thor's hammer was in the issue that established the "outer space" loophole when it comes to lifting Thor's hammer. In other words, anyone can lift Thor's hammer if you're in outer space. It came up in Avengers #122 (by Steve Englehart, Bob Brown and Mike Esposito)...

Okay, so that's it for THAT part of the question. Now as to the more difficult part of the question. Who else has lifted Thor's hammer? I'm going to only list examples withing comic books (so no movies or cartoons) where people lifted A. Mjolnir itself specifically, not some replica or similar hammer and B. Mjolnir while the enchantment is on it

We'll go in chronological order, beginning with Thor himself, in Journey Into Mystery #83 (by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, Jack Kirby and Joe Sinnott)...

I'll make a slight exception to chronological order because Odin is implied to have lifted it pretty much from the get go, since he was the guy who GAVE the hammer to Thor in the first place! Here's Odin putting the enchantment on the hammer in 1983's Thor Annual #11 (by Alan Zelenetz, Bob Hall and Vince Colletta)...

Just four issues into Thor's history, in Journey Into Mystery #86 (by Stan Lee, Larry Leiber, Jack Kirby and Dick Ayers), Thor's hammer is taken by a giant robot...

In What If..? #10 (by Don Glut, Rick Hoberg and Dave Hunt), we see what would have happened had Jane Foster found Thor's hammer...

(We'll come back to Jane again later)

In Thor #276 (by Roy Thomas, John Buscema and Tom Palmer), a "new" Thor is introduced, who is able to lift Thor's hammer through some wearing enchanted gloves Odin had given to Thor as a young child...

In Thor #305 (by Mark Gruenwald, Ralph Macchio, Keith Pollard and Chic Stone), the artificial being Air-Walker lifts the hammer...

In What If...? #39 (by Alan Zelenetz, Ron Wilson and Danny Bulanadi), Thor meets Conan's god, Crom, who takes control of the hammer...

So I guessssss the theory is that the enchantment is now off, right? But we'll still show how the villainous Set lifted the hammer...

And when Thor is killed, Conan takes the hammer...

Go to the next page for more characters lifting Thor's hammer!

Probably the most famous example is Beta Ray Bill in Thor #337 (by Walter Simonson)...

In Thor #355 (by Walter Simonson and Sal Buscema), we meet Thor's great-grandfather, Buri, who also lifts the hammer...

In Thor #384 (the first issue of Tom DeFalco, Ron Frenz and Brett Breeding's run), we meet Dargo Ktor in the future...

In Thor #390 (by DeFalco, Frenz and Breeding), Steve Rogers (who had recently given up his identity as Captain America and was going by the name The Captain) lifts the hammer...

In Thor #432 (by Tom DeFalco, Ron Frenz and Al Milgrom), Thor is banished for all eternity (it turns out to be much less than that) for killing Loki. Eric Masterson, who was sharing Thor's body at the time, was upset and discovered that HE was now Thor!

In Guardians of the Galaxy #42 (by Michael Gallagher, Dale Eaglesham and Steve Montano), we meet the son of Thor in this alternate future!

In What If..? #66 (by Simon Furman, John Royle and Bambos), Rogue takes on more of Thor's power that she originally did in Avengers Annual #10...

In DC vs. Marvel #2 (by Peter David, Claudio Castellini and Paul Neary), Wonder Woman encounters Thor's hammer...

In the following issue (by Ron Marz, Dan Jurgens and Joe Rubinstein), she lifts the hammer...

In 2099: Manifest Destiny #1 (by Len Kaminski, Mike McKone and Mark McKenna), Captain America has the hammer in the future, as well, but when he is about to die, he sends the hammer to Miguel O'Hara, the former Spider-Man...

In the final issue of the second volume of What If...? (#114, by Jay Faerber, Gregg Schiegiel and Jose Marzan Jr.), in an alternate timeline where the heroes were stuck on Battleworld after Secret Wars, the daughter of Captain America and Rogue lifted the hammer...

In Captain Marvel #30 (by Peter David, ChrisCross, Anibal Rodriguez and Rich Perotta), old Rick Jones (from the Future Imperfect timeline) gets the hammer...

In Thor #75 (by Dan Jurgens, Scot Eaton and Drew Geraci), we see King Thor's son, Magni (from an alternate future where Thor took over the world) get the hammer...

Superman lifted it in JLA/Avengers #4 (by Kurt Busiek and George Perez)...

but as we see at the end, it really didn't count...

In She-Hulk #14 (by Dan Slott, Rick Burchett and CLiff Rathburn), the hammer is lifted by Andy, the Awesome Android, and changes his life!

Go to the next page for the last batch of examples...

In Thor #600 (by J. Michael Straczynski, Olivier Coipel and Mark Morales), Thor meets his own grandfather through some magical shenanigans...

In Thor and the Four Warriors #4 (by Alex Zalben and Gurihiru), Alex Power of Power Pack wields the hammer...

In What If...?: Age of Ultron #3 (by Joe Keatinge, Mico Suayan and Raffaele Ienco), Thor is killed and the remaining heroes come up with a plan where they parachute Black Widow in to see if she can get to the hammer...

In Avengers & X-Men: Axis #9 (by Rick Remender, Jimmy Cheung and Mark Morales), a spell has "inverted" everyone's personality, so Thor is now a villain and Loki? Well, Loki is now worthy...

Finally, in Thor #1 (by Jason Aaron, Russell Dauterman and Matthew Wilson), we see Jane Foster once again, as she becomes the current Thor...

(By the way, in X-Men: To Serve and Protect #3 by Marc Guggenheim, Eric Koda and Danny Miki, Storm lifted Thor's hammer, but only with Thor also holding the hammer, which is another loophole in the whole "other people getting to lift Thor's hammer" rules - I mention this only in case someone thinks if she should have been mentioned...
