In this feature, I share with you three comic book "easter eggs." An easter egg is a joke/visual gag/in-joke that a comic book creator (typically the artist) has hidden in the pages of the comic for readers to find (just like an easter egg). Today we take a look at a few Easter Eggs from Mark Millar's Marvel Knights: Spider-Man run, as suggested by reader Dan W.!

First off, here are a couple of earlier editions of Comic Book Easter Eggs where I featured Marvel Knights Spider-Man!

In this one, we looked at the British cast of The Office appearing in an issue.

In this one, the FF and the X-Men surreptitiously walk by Peter and Mary Jane (by the way, this one also has a Big Bang Theory "Easter egg" that I didn't remember featuring before. Odd).

Now on to Dan's suggestions!

First up is a visit to Peter's old room in #1, where Terry and Rachel Dodson show off a veritable cornacopia of references to old school Spider-Man adventures, including the Living Brain, the Spider-Mobile, the Coffee Bean, Peter's old broken glasses, his microscope that Uncle Ben and Aunt May bought him in his first appearance and much, much more!

In #2, this is less obvious, but it sure does look like that prostitute is meant to evoke Harley Quinn, whose series had been drawn by the Dodsons a few years earlier...

In #4, Dan actually missed this one, but when I got the issue out for another reference later in the issue, I noticed that the Simpsons are out to eat in the bottom-hand left corner of the panel.

Clever, Dodsons!

The bigger reference is later, as we see Clark, Lois and Jimmy...

In #7, the Dodsons pay tribute to Mark Millar and MillarWorld with the name of a diner...

In #8, Frank Cho takes over art duties and draws both Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons as well as a reference to Cho's own comic strip, Liberty Meadows, in a crowd scene...

Finally, in issue #9, the Dodsons pay tribute to artist Duncan Fegredo with Fegredo's Fans and that sure as heck looks like Lando Calrissian in the bottom left corner, doesn't it?
