In this feature, I share with you three comic book "easter eggs." An easter egg is a joke/visual gag/in-joke that a comic book creator (typically the artist) has hidden in the pages of the comic for readers to find (just like an easter egg). They range from the not-so-obscure to the really obscure. So come check 'em all out and enjoy! Also, click here for an archive of all the easter eggs featured so far! If you want to suggest an easter egg for a future column, e-mail me at bcronin@comicbookresources.com (do not post your suggestion in the comments section!).

A number of you over the years have asked me to feature easter eggs from John Layman and Rob Guillory's excellent series, Chew. Guillory, in particular, LOVES to do easter eggs. So here are fourteen examples of Chew Easter Eggs. These are far, far, FAR from all of the easter eggs in the pages of Chew, but I figured I had to draw the line somewhere, and that line was fourteen.

Enjoy!

NOTE: Click on any image to enlarge it! Some of these easter eggs are kind of hard to see at the normal panel size, so you sort of NEED to make it bigger.

In this sequence from Chew #11, we see the cast of the film Office Space in the background of these two panels...

In Chew #13, a trip to the newspaper has Tony Chu sharing an elevator with two notable newspaper photographers, Peter Parker and Jimmy Olsen...

In a clever bit in Chew #14, the zombie movie is The Walking Dead...

In Chew #19, well, this secret science lair has ALL sorts of easter eggs, from a note about the Fringe division to Han Solo frozen in carbonite!

In Chew #21, you can see the various characters from Lost in the names on the wall...

Later that issue, there is a character who looks like Will Ferrell that is sort of a collection of famous Will Ferrell bits...

Go to the next page for the rest of the Chew Easter Eggs!

In Chew #24, there is the butter carving tournament, and one of the pieces of butter is, of course, Butters from South Park (along with his creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone)...

When Tony Chu goes up for auction in Chew #25, Guillory fits TONS of people (mostly bad guys) into the audience, including Statler and Waldorf, the evil brothers from Trading Places and Jay and Silent Bob...

Layman and Guillory make a cameo in Chew #31...

Chew #35 has a few Lost references on the bulletin board (Guillory loves him some lost)...

In a really clever easter egg, Chew #36 has an advertisement for a very specific type of plumber...

Finally, even the covers are getting into the act, as Chu's watch on the cover of Chew #37 is set to a reference to Lost (the flight number of the plane that crashed in Lost)...

That's it for now! Again, I know that there are more Chew easter eggs. Feel free to e-mail me them at bcronin@comicbookresources.com and maybe if I get enough I'll do a sequel to this entry! Or just send me in OTHER easter eggs, as well, if you'd like!
