Comedy can be a tough genre to tackle. The writers want the audience to be happy and laugh as they watch the series unfolding, but they also want viewers to connect with the characters and care about them. That can be hard to accomplish when trying to maintain a comedic tone, which is why many comedy anime take a break from their silly shenanigans to include heartfelt and emotional scenes.

Of course, accomplishing this task is easier said than done, because these types of scenes have to be able to fit in organically with an otherwise light-hearted show. Fortunately, there is no shortage of comedy anime that have managed to explore its characters' emotions on a deeper level without sacrificing the overall tone.
