One thing that stands out about the MCU is the collection of talented actors the franchise has been able to amass for different roles over the years. From industry titans like Samuel L. Jackson to initial unknowns like Tom Holland, there's no shortage of talent that Marvel Studios has to offer. And because there's plenty of room for comedy in their films, they've been able to attract actors familiar with that genre as well.

With the likes of Kathryn Hahn and Kumail Nanjiani set to play roles in Phase 4, it makes fans wonder what other funny folks would be great fits for roles in the MCU. These comedy veterans could bring their brand of humor to the franchise or stretch their acting muscles in more complex roles.

10 Vince Vaughn — His hulking frame & penchant for playing bigmouths would serve him well in the role of William Baker/Flint Marko/Sandman

Actor/comedian Vince Vaugn in a casting as Sandman.

Sandman is a long-time Spider-Man rogue who's only appeared once in film before in Spider-Man 3. Despite that sympathetic take on the character, Sandman needs to be a little rougher around the edges (no pun intended) as an antagonist: a cocky yet vicious criminal with a short temper to match.

Vince Vaughn's hulking frame and penchant for playing motormouthed wiseasses would serve him well in this role: not only could he come off as a street smart crook but we could just imagine him trading wisecracks while in battle with Tom Holland's web-slinger.

9 Seann William Scott —  Eric O'Grady/Ant-Man III, as Seann excels at playing the kind of charming boneheads that Eric O'Grady isn't too far removed from

A fancasting of Seann William Scott as Eric O'Grady.

He's been a fan-favorite pick for the likes of Deadpool and Guy Gardner in the past, but Scott just might be the perfect choice to play the MCU's Eric O'Grady. While he might be a little older than Eric is in the comics, Scott excels at playing the kind of charming boneheads that Eric isn't too far removed from.

As a plus, getting Scott for this role would reunite him with Paul Rudd, who plays Scott Lang. It would be fun to have Eric as an initial adversary in a later film who squares off with Scott, and seeing the two of them reignite their Role Models chemistry would be a blast.

8 Richard Ayoade — He could infuse his dry wit & deadpan charm into the role of H.E.R.B.I.E. (voice)

The Fantastic Four are set to make their MCU debut in the near future, but Marvel's First Family wouldn't feel complete without the presence of H.E.R.B.I.E., their trusty helper robot. Bringing in H.E.R.B.I.E. would help make the MCU take on the characters feel different and add to Reed's prowess as a brilliant scientist.

As for who should voice the iconic machine, the always hilarious Richard Ayoade could infuse H.E.R.B.I.E. with the same dry wit and deadpan charm that's made him a scene-stealer. Ayoade worked with Disney recently on Soul, so here's hoping that he's a shoo-in for the part.

7 Gilbert Gottfried — Hearing Gottfried's iconic voice come out of Headpool's mouth would be legendary

Comedian Gilbert Gottfried next to an image of Marvel's Headpool.

Not only is Deadpool on the way to the MCU, but the Multiverse is set to be an important part of the franchise going forward; is there a better time then to introduce the Deadpool Corps? Headpool was a Deadpool from the Marvel Zombies universe who became zombified and eventually lost his entire body. Now just a chatty and rotting decapitated head, this Merc with Only a Mouth soon met his Earth-616 counterpart and joined him on the Deadpool Corps, a team made up of Deadpool and other alternate reality versions of himself.

Hearing Gottfried's iconic voice come out of Headpool's mouth would be legendary, especially if they let him ad-lib all sorts of wisecracks and insults to bounce off of Ryan Reynolds. Just think of him as a crazier, snarkier Iago with a taste for brains.

6 Sacha Baron Cohen — as Nightmare because even in more serious parts his comedic leanings are able to shine through

Comedian Sacha Braon Cohen next to an image of the Marvel villain Nightmare.

While he's more widely known for playing characters like Borat and Bruno, Sacha Baron Cohen has dipped his toes into dramatic waters quite a few times, though even in these more serious parts his comedic leanings are able to shine through in wry and charismatic ways.

It's his balancing of those sensibilities that makes him an excellent choice for the villain Nightmare, who needs to be devilishly entertaining (literally and figuratively). Having Cohen rule over the Dream Dimension and match wits with Benedict Cumberbatch's Stephen Strange would be incredible to witness on screen.

5 D'Arcy Carden (voice) — It would be especially funny hearing Carden's gentle & polite voice coming out of Bessie the Hellcow's mouth

The Good Place's D'Arcy Carden is one of those performers that never fails to grab your attention. Her performance as Janet on the NBC sitcom perfectly blended a deadpan delivery with warmth and complexity, and while Bessie the Hellcow might not be the first choice of characters Carden could play, it could certainly work if done well.

It would be especially funny hearing Carden's gentle and polite voice coming out of Bessie's mouth (whether she's actually speaking or just mooing) while the vampire cow is in the middle of claiming a new victim in a future film.

4 Orlando Jones — The magnetic charisma & eerie instability he brought on American Gods shows he is more than capable of playing Achebe

It's unclear what the plot of Black Panther II will be in the wake of Chadwick Boseman's passing, though it's certain there will be some new threat to the country of Wakanda. Past rumors have speculated that either Namor the Submariner or even Doctor Doom would take the villain baton from Michael B. Jordan's Erik Killmonger, and either would be interesting to see in this film. But one villain that could really shake up the foundations of Wakanda is Achebe.

Achebe is a cunning psychopath and manipulator who delights in causing chaos. He could play on the feelings Wakanda's citizens have about their country's resources now being made public and orchestrate events within the story to twist their feelings into outright hatred towards their rulers. Orlando Jones is best known for being a standout on MADtv, though he's shown he can easily handle more challenging roles like his stint on American Gods as Mr. Nancy/Anansi. The magnetic charisma and eerie instability he brought to that trickster god shows he is more than capable of playing Achebe in the MCU.

3 Briga Heelan — her keen sense of comedic timing & ability to play both neurotic & snarky roles while still being relatable makes her a prime candidate for the role of Beverly Switzler

An image of actress/comedian Briga Heelan next to an image of Beverly Switzler from Marvel Comics.

Howard the Duck's occasional girlfriend Beverly Switzler needs an actress who has a smart and likable air about them but also possesses the comedic chops to bounce off the insanity of Howard's adventures.

Comedian Briga Heelan then would embody Beverly perfectly; while her name might not ring a bell, she's consistently stolen scenes on shows like Ground Floor and Great News thanks to her keen sense of comedic timing and ability to play both neurotic and snarky roles while still being relatable. Heelan's sensibilities already seem tailor-made for the MCU, and she deserves exposure to a wider audience.

2 Danny DeVito — as Pip the Troll because very few can be as cynical & perverse with the same kind of charm as DeVito

An image of Danny DeVito next to an image of Marvel's Pip the Troll.

Everyone loves Danny DeVito, and nothing would make us happier than to see the beloved funnyman join the MCU. While he lost out on the role of Rocket to Bradley Cooper, there's another character from the cosmic side of Marvel who would fit DeVito even more perfectly: Adam Warlock's perpetual sidekick Pip the Troll.

Pip is a lovably crude and lecherous character, and few can be as cynical and perverse with the same kind of charm as DeVito. Think of this role as a combination of Phil from Hercules and It's Always Sunny's Frank Reynolds.

1 Jack Black — His performance in Goosebumps as R.L. Stine, in particular, shows how good he'd be at playing the weird & egocentric side of George Tarleton/M.O.D.O.K.

An image of Jack Black next to an image of the Marvel villain M.O.D.O.K..

It's definitely a good time to be a M.O.D.O.K. fan; not only did he serve as the main antagonist of Square Enix's Marvel's Avengers video game, but he's set to star in his own stop-motion animated sitcom created by and starring comedian Patton Oswalt. With that kind of exposure, it's only a matter of time before Marvel's weirdest supervillain makes his MCU debut, and Jack Black would be uniquely suited to play him.

While some love him or hate him, Black has proven himself in recent years to be adept at embodying eccentric characters that at first glance might be somewhat outside his comfort zone, such as in Bernie and Goosebumps. His performance in Goosebumps as R.L. Stine, in particular, shows how good he'd be at playing the weird and egocentric side of M.O.D.O.K., while his vocal performance as Slappy has the kind of menace and playfulness that he requires. Here's hoping Black's Jumanji co-star Karen Gillan (Nebula) puts in a good word for him.
