While discussing the next entry in the popular dinosaur franchise, Jurassic World 3 director Colin Trevorrow referred to the movie as "Jurassic Park IV."

Scheduled for release in 2021, the movie will see Jurassic Park's Ian Malcolm, Ellie Sattler and Dr. Alan Grant reunited as they cross paths with Jurassic World's Owen Grady and Claire Dearing, as played by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, respectively.

Addressing why Jurassic Park's central trio was missing during the events of Jurassic World, Trevorrow told Empire Online, "We'd have had to come up with a reason why Ellie, Malcolm and Grant all went to the theme park on the exact same day it broke down -- again. The next film allows the legacy characters to be a part of the story in an organic way. [Co-writer] Emily Carmichael and I call it 'Jurassic Park IV,' because it is."

"You start asking the most basic questions: who are these people now? What do they make of the new world they're living in, and how do they feel about being part of its history?" he continued. "Ultimately, it will be in collaboration with the actors. They know and love these characters. We'll do it together."
