Last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was a refreshing breath of fresh air for the franchise. A reboot of the Modern Warfare series of Call of Duty titles, it delivered a gripping single-player campaign as well as an expansive multiplayer service. Unsatisfied with leaving the game after release, Infinity Ward and Activision have continued to support the game post-release. The release of Season 2 earlier this year brought new life to the game’s multiplayer suite with new maps, Operators and game modes.

Following up Season 2, Activision has just revealed their plans for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 3. The update will include a host of new content on launch day, and more content will be released throughout the Season. The update will also greatly effect Call of Duty: Warzone, the free-to-play battle royale released on March 10 which is tied directly to Modern Warfare.

New Content

Season 3 will be adding a new Operator to the list of playable characters in Modern Warfare and Warzone. Alex, also known as Echo 3-1, is one of the playable protagonists in Modern Warfare’s single-player campaign. By choosing Alex as their Operator character, players will be able to adopt the likeness of Chad Michael Collins while fighting online.

Season 3 will also include three new multiplayer maps at launch, with additional maps planned for later in the Season. Talsik Backlot, remastered from the original Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, takes place in a city in the middle of the Urzikstan desert. Players can expect intense close-quarters battle within the city’s buildings.

Another brand new map, Hovec Sawmill, is designed around mid to long-range 6v6 combat. The environment offers many tools that players can use to get a leg up on the enemy team, such as a burning sawmill and elevated rooftops. Finally, Aniyah Incursion is a redesign of the popular Aniyah Palace map for use in 6v6 matches. Originally used in 10v10 matches and Ground War, the map has been shrunk to focus solely on the palace at the center of the map. This rework promises to change the pacing of these smaller matches.

Two new weapons are being added in Season 3, unlocked through the Battle Pass system. At Tier 15 players will unlock the Renetti handgun, a versatile semi-automatic 9mm handgun. At Tier 31 players can get their hands on the SKS marksman rifle, a semi-automatic carbine with a surprisingly fast fire rate.

The final day-one piece of content in Season 3 is Warzone vehicle skins, which allow you to customize vehicles. After choosing a vehicle skin, that skin will automatically be applied to any vehicle driven in Warzone.

A New Mode

A new game mode, Quads, will also be coming to Warzone in Season 3. Quads is a variant of Battle Royale and Plunder that focuses on four-person squads, as opposed to the typical three-man squads available in the standard modes.

The addition of an extra person in each squad may seem trivial, but having an extra team member gives you more opportunities to win while also putting you at a huge disadvantage if you lose a teammate. Quads promises to put further emphasis on teamwork and strategy.

PlayStation Exclusives

In addition to all of the other content being added in Season 3, there are also several pieces of content being released exclusively for the PlayStation 4 version of the game. For a limited time, PlayStation players will have exclusive access to the Survival game mode on the fan-favorite multiplayer map Shoot House. They can also receive the Call of Duty: Warzone Combat Pack, which includes weapon blueprints and skins, and an exclusive mission in the Barracks which will unlock a new weapon blueprint.

There is a ton of new free content coming to Modern Warfare and Warzone in Season 3, and much more is planned for release in the near future. Infinity Ward and Activision’s commitment to supporting these Call of Duty titles will help maintain a healthy player base for the foreseeable future.
