A wealthy, corrupt businessman and the original founder of the Cobra Kai dojo, Terry Silver is an old Army buddy of John Kreese. Griffith originated the role in the 1989 film The Karate Kid Part III, which sees Kreese enlist Silver as part of a plan to exact revenge on Daniel LaRusso and Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita). Silver was alluded to in Cobra Kai's first two seasons. In Season 3, Nick Marini played a younger version of Silver in various flashback sequences, which revealed new details regarding Kreese and Silver's time in Vietnam. It was later confirmed that Griffith would, in fact, be reprising the role in Season 4.

Set over 30 years after the events of 1984's The Karate Kid, Cobra Kai premiered its first season on YouTube Red (which was rebranded as YouTube Premium shortly thereafter) in May 2018, starring returning actors from the original film trilogy, not to mention a new "Karate Kid" in the form of Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña). The show returned for Season 2 in April 2019. Seasons 1 and 2 of Cobra Kai were met with critical acclaim, leading YouTube to order a third season.

However, YouTube then agreed to release the series to its production company, Sony Pictures Television, at the latter's request. This came about due to the fact that YouTube had informed Sony that it would not be ordering a fourth season. Sony then took Cobra Kai to Netflix, with Season 3 premiering on the platform on Jan. 1 of this year. Season 4 is set to hit Netflix on Dec. 31, meaning that Cobra Kai not only kicked off 2021, but will finish it as well. The Karate Kid sequel series has already been renewed for Season 5.

Cobra Kai Season 4 strikes Netflix on Dec. 31.
