Netflix has released the first official trailer for Season 3 of Cobra Kai.
After recapping Season 2, the trailer deals with the fallout of the major high school brawl between the students and sees Johnny Lawrence and Danny Larusso unite to take down the real villain of the story: John Kreese.
Cobra Kai premiered on YouTube Premium in 2018 and after Season 2, Netflix won a bidding war to bring the series to the streaming giant for Season 3. Shortly thereafter, it was renewed for a fourth season. Set 34 years after The Karate Kid, the series centers on Johnny Lawrence and Danny LaRusso, now adults and senseis of their respective dojos: Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do Karate. Season 1 sees Johnny restarting Cobra Kai, taking on the frequently bullied Miguel as his first student, with the dojo soon gaining popularity among Miguel's classmates. Things take a turn when Miguel begins developing feelings for Daniel's daughter Samantha and Daniel takes on Johnny's estranged son Robby Keene as his own student. Season 2 then brought the original Cobra Kai sensei, John Kreese, back into the fold.
In August, co-creator and executive producer Jon Hurwitz discussed how the series connects to the larger Karate Kid franchise while teasing more familiar faces for Season 3. "Any character who has lived within this Miyagi-Verse has potential to show up at some point on Cobra Kai and I can say that the three of us, as writers, have literally discussed pretty much every person who has appeared in those films, from these large characters you're talking about, like the Terry Silvers of the world, to the most minor characters who had one or two lines," he said. "We view that as all characters who live in our universe and, at any moment in time, have the potential to show up as long as they're relevant to the present-day story that we're telling and don't feel like they're thrown in there for cameo purposes or for simply for nostalgia's sake."
Season Three finds everyone reeling in the aftermath of the violent high school brawl between their dojos, which has left Miguel in a precarious condition. While Daniel searches for answers in his past and Johnny seeks redemption, Kreese further manipulates his vulnerable students with his own vision of dominance. The soul of the Valley is at stake, and the fate of every student and sensei hangs in the balance.
