Cobra Kai's Season 3 will bring new adventures to the series' rival martial arts schools, continuing their fight for supremacy.
Series star Ralph Macchio revealed that Season 3 has his character, Daniel LaRusso, discover that his mentor and father figure Mister Miyagi kept secrets from him. Just as the first two seasons brought untold secrets from Johnny Lawrence's background, the new season will bring new perspectives to Daniel and Miyagi's dynamic.
"LaRusso learns things about Miyagi-Do and things about Mr. Miyagi that he did not know, and neither does the audience know," Macchio teased in an interview with EW. "So we are both, the audience and LaRusso, learning things about Miyagi-Do and Mr. Miyagi that we did not expect. That's something I've been asking for from very early on in making this show."
"There are certainly elements of that, that we got to see through Johnny Lawrence's journey in Seasons 1 and 2, you got to learn things about him that you didn't know, but you felt like, 'Oh, we know everything about Daniel LaRusso and Mr. Miyagi.' So we were always looking for that, and in Season 3, we get that."
Trailers and advance clips from Season 3 revealed that Daniel will be returning to Okinawa where he will be reunited with Kumiko and Chozen from 1986's The Karate Kid Part II. Back in Miyagi's homeland, Daniel will discover that his mentor may have kept some things from him that will shape his future back in the states.
Cobra Kai stars William Zabka, Ralph Macchio, Courtney Henggeler, Xolo Maridueña, Mary Mouser, Tanner Buchanan, Jacob Bertrand, Gianni Decenzo, Peyton List and Martin Kove. Season 3 arrives on Netflix Jan. 8, 2021.
