An official clip from the upcoming third season of Cobra Kai on Netflix marks the return of Tamlyn Tomita as Kumiko.

The clip, shared to Netflix's YouTube channel, sees Tomita's Kumiko sitting down for lunch with Ralph Macchio's Daniel LaRusso. Daniel laments his struggles with recent events while the two look back on the lessons they've learned in the past. Daniel says he wishes Mr. Miyagi was still around to "help guide [him]," to which Kumiko smiles and replies, "I think I can make that happen."

Tomita first played the role of Kumiko in 1986's The Karate Kid Part II. In that film, Kumiko dreams of being a dancer and serves as Daniel's main love interest during his and Mr. Miyagi's journey to Okinawa, Japan. However, Kumiko did not appear in The Karate Kid Part III, with the 1989 film revealing that she was offered a dancing career in Tokyo. Cobra Kai Season 3 marks Tomita's first appearance as Kumiko since 1986 (though she did provide additional voices for an episode of the Karate Kid animated series in 1989). That said, it seems unlikely Daniel and Kumiko will continue their romance in Cobra Kai, with the former now being happily married to Courtney Henggeler's Amanda LaRusso.

Set 34 years after the original Karate Kid film from 1984, Cobra Kai premiered its first season on YouTube Premium (formerly known as YouTube Red) in May 2018, with the show returning for Season 2 in April 2019.  Seasons 1 and 2 of Cobra Kai were met with critical acclaim, with YouTube Premium ordering a third. However, YouTube then agreed to release the series after informing its production company, Sony Pictures Television, that it would not be ordering any additional seasons. Sony then took Cobra Kai to Netflix, which will drop Season 3 in January 2021 and has already renewed the show for Season 4.

The show follows William Zabka's Johnny Lawrence, who reforms the Cobra Kai dojo and takes on his own apprentice in Xolo Maridueña's Miguel Diaz, as well as continues his rivalry with Daniel.

Season Three finds everyone reeling in the aftermath of the violent high school brawl between their dojos, which has left Miguel in a precarious condition. While Daniel searches for answers in his past and Johnny seeks redemption, Kreese further manipulates his vulnerable students with his own vision of dominance. The soul of the Valley is at stake, and the fate of every student and sensei hangs in the balance.

Cobra Kai stars William Zabka, Ralph Macchio, Courtney Henggeler, Xolo Maridueña, Mary Mouser, Tanner Buchanan, Jacob Bertrand, Gianni Decenzo, Peyton List and Martin Kove. Season 3 arrives on Netflix Jan. 8, 2021.
