The release date for the second season of the YouTube Original series Cobra Kai was announced on Thursday alongside a brief teaser trailer. The second season is a direct follow-up to the events of the first, which was itself a miniseries sequel to the 1984 film The Karate Kid.

Cobra Kai Season 1 followed Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), a former member of the Cobra Kai dojo, as he got back into martial arts, training a new generation after his crushing defeat to Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) 34 years ago.

Johnny and Daniel rekindled their long dormant feud in the first season, but it looks like Season 2 will take it a step further, with Daniel reopening a dojo of his own, the Miyagi-Do dojo, itself a reference to Daniel's original sensei. The teaser hints at a growing rivalry between the two dojos, which plays out between their students, mimicking the themes of the original film.
