The old adage rings true: Cobra Kai never dies.

The acclaimed Karate Kid sequel series Cobra Kai is slated to premiere its fourth season on Netflix on Friday, Dec. 31. What's more, the show has already been renewed for a fifth season. While Netflix has yet to officially order a sixth season, Cobra Kai producer Josh Heald has confirmed that the show's crew has no intention of stopping with Season 5.

"We have more beyond Season 5. We are not writing to the end of the series in Season 5 right now," Heald told Screen Rant. "We can't believe we've filmed two seasons of the show this year. In our minds, it's crazy to believe how far ahead of the story we are than what the audience has seen so far. Season 5 is another enormous season with a lot of new flavors and a lot of things that you haven't seen before yet on the show. And it's not the end."

Set over 30 years after the events of 1984's The Karate Kid, Cobra Kai premiered its first season on YouTube Red (which was rebranded as YouTube Premium shortly thereafter) in May 2018, starring characters from the original film trilogy, most notably Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), not to mention a new "Karate Kid" in the form of Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña), as well as a slew of other new characters. The show returned for Season 2 in April 2019. Seasons 1 and 2 of Cobra Kai were met with critical acclaim, leading YouTube to order a third season.

However, YouTube later agreed to release the series to its production company, Sony Pictures Television, at the latter's request. This was due to the fact that YouTube had informed Sony that it would not be ordering a fourth season. Sony then took Cobra Kai to Netflix, with Season 3 premiering on the platform on Jan. 1 of this year. With Season 4 set to premiere before the year is out and Season 5 coming sometime after that, fans can expect a lot more Cobra Kai in the near future -- especially seeing as how Heald's comments suggest that a sixth season is on the table as well.

Cobra Kai Season 4 premieres Dec. 31 on Netflix.
