Following the release of Cobra Kai Season 3 on Netflix, the bosses behind the show teased that they have lots more planned. However, they are also ready to provide a satisfying conclusion if the streaming service cancels the show.

Speaking in an interview with PopCulture, the show's creators revealed some of the plans for the series going forward. With Netflix having already approved a Season 4 of the Karate Kid sequel show, viewers can anticipate more from Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio). As for what comes next, co-creator and executive produce Jon Hurwitz said, "We have plans for several more seasons of the show."

The series first began as a YouTube Red exclusive, debuting in 2018. Since then, the show has found its way to Netflix, releasing Season 3 exclusively on the service. The series received a much greater following as a result of its new platform, becoming one of the top 10 shows on Netflix in 2020. However, Hurwitz stated that, even during the writing of Season 1, "we had a clear sense where we wanted things to end, but we never knew exactly how long it would take to get there." As for Season 4, he revealed that most of it had been written and they have already thought about what comes next. The course ahead will simply be a matter of their conversations with Netflix regarding the show's future.

The actual production of Season 4 has been met with the complications imposed by COVID-19. Co-creator and executive producer Josh Heald explained that, while this had made it challenging to lock-down when production would begin, their "expectation is in early 2021." Given that Cobra Kai focuses heavily on hand-to-hand martial arts, it will be dependent on the social distance conditions in place throughout 2021. He did reveal that the process will be made easier due to the previously built sets for the show, making them "ready to jump with very little prep."

As for what comes after Season 4, it remains to be seen if the focus will linger on Johnny and Daniel. John Kreese's phone call at the end of Season 3 suggests they will still have to deal with him, but beyond that the possibilities are open. The show's creators are open to potential spin-offs cited Breaking Bad as inspiration. "We love how that story concluded, but you're still living in that Breaking Bad universe," most likely referring to the spinoff Better Call Saul.
