Later this year, IDW Publishing will launch a new comic book series set within the continuity of YouTube Premium's Karate Kid follow-up series Cobra Kai.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, IDW's Cobra Kai: The Karate Kid Saga Continues is set to hit comic shops this fall. The series will kick things off with a four-part story arc that retells the original 1984 Karate Kid film from the perspective of antagonist Johnny Lawrence -- who, played by William Zabka, would go on to become the focus of Cobra Kai.

The arc, dubbed simply "Johnny's Story," will be penned by IDW editor/writer Denton J. Tipton (Transformers, X-Files) and feature art by Kagan McLeod (Infinite Kung-Fu, Kaptara).

"I saw The Karate Kid for the first time during a lock-in at the Y," said Tipton. "The skeleton costumes captured my attention, while the Miyagi-isms pulled me into the story. And like everyone else at the time, I caught Karate Kid fever. Fast-forward 35 years, and being just a small part of the franchise has made me feel young and inspired all over again."
