Series creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg also released a joint statement along with the announcement, describing the end of Cobra Kai as "bittersweet" while thanking fans for their support. "Reacquainting the world with the Karate Kid universe has been our humble honor," they said. "Making Cobra Kai has allowed us to join the same hallowed dojo once inhabited by the great Robert Mark Kamen, John Avildsen, Jerry Weintraub, and all the amazing original cast members. It has also enabled us to play sensei, expanding the original storylines and birthing a new generation of underdogs. We’ve never once taken this opportunity for granted."

Cobra Kai Ends With Season 6

They continued, "Our day one goal with Cobra Kai has always been to end it on our terms, leaving the Valley in the time and place we’ve always imagined. So it is with immense pride and thankfulness that we are able to announce that achievement. The upcoming season six will mark the conclusion of Cobra Kai." Cobra Kai released its fifth season in September 2022. In a previous interview, Hurwitz revealed that there were plans for the series beyond the fifth season. "We are definitely writing towards an endgame, which will hopefully be beyond Season 5," he said. Beyond that, Heald also revealed that the series had no intention of stopping at Season 5.

In October 2022, Cobra Kai star Ralph Macchio shared his optimism for the future of the franchise, particularly in regards to the storylines for his character Daniel LaRusso in Season 6. "But as always the case with Cobra Kai -- our karate soap opera -- one door closes, and another opens," the actor said.

Cobra Kai is set 34 years after the events of the original 1984 film The Karate Kid. The series originally premiered on YouTube Premium in May 2018 and, following the release of Season 2 on the platform, Netflix won a bidding war to stream the series for Season 3. Cobra Kai centers around Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and Danny LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), who are now adults and senseis of their own respective dojos (Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do Karate).

All five seasons of Cobra Kai are currently available to stream on Netflix. Season 6 does not yet have a release date.
