Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother, A Series of Unfortunate Events) has been tapped to play lead character Dex Parios in ABC's upcoming television adaption of the Oni Press comic book series Stumptown, reports.

Created by writer Greg Rucka and artist Matthew Southworth, Stumptown revolves around Dex, an ex-military private investigator with a gambling problem based in Portland, Oregon. Dex is defined by her complicated past, sharp wit and her tendency to try and solve other people's problems while also avoiding her own.

The comic was first launched in 2009 as a four-issue limited series, which won the Eisner Award for Best Limited Series in 2011. Oni Press then revived Stumptown for a second, five-issue limited series in 2012 and, finally, an ongoing series in 2014. Late last month, it was revealed that ABC had ordered a pilot for a new TV show based on the acclaimed comic book.

Smulders is certainly no stranger to comic book adaptations. She has starred as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill in several films set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, beginning with 2012's The Avengers, and is set to return later this year in both Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home. Additionally, she appeared as the character in a couple of guest appearances on ABC's Marvel TV series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Smulders is perhaps best known for her role as Robin Scherbatsky in the popular sitcom How I Met Your Mother, which ran for nine seasons on CBS beginning in 2005. If the Stumptown pilot is ordered to series, it would be Smulders' first regular broadcast role since How I Met Your Mother finished up in 2014.

Produced by ABC, Stumptown is written and executive produced by Jason Richman. Other executive producers include Greg Rucka, Matthew Southworth, Justin Greenwold, Ruben Fleischer and Dave Bernad.
