WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Spider-Man: Far From Home, now in theaters.

One of the biggest revelations in Spider-Man: Far From Home was its post-credits scene that the versions of Nick Fury and Maria Hill seen throughout the film were in fact the Skrull couple Talos and Soren, first introduced in Captain Marvel.

Posing as the intelligence operatives while the real Nick Fury relaxed on a Skrull spaceship patrolling the cosmos, the Skrulls reveal themselves as they drive together back on Earth. And with the real Hill's current whereabouts unknown, a fan theory purports that Hill has been impersonated by a Skrull since her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in 2012's The Avengers. However, star Cobie Smulders isn't so sure that she's been an alien in disguise all along.

"[Marvel Studios] could change it to be that way, but in my mind, no. I don’t know where she is, but my hope is that she’s on vacation somewhere," Smulders said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "In this world, she’s probably just on some other mission.”

Hill had been among those killed by Thanos' use of the Infinity Gauntlet, alongside Fury in the post-credits scene for Avengers: Infinity War. Even in their final moments, neither agent revealed themselves to be Skrulls, a detail that casts further doubt on the fan theory.
