Phil Brooks, better known as CM Punk, is reportedly in talks to make his return to the squared circle.

According to Fightful Select, ongoing conversations have been taking place to get Punk back in the ring, with the most likely promotion being All Elite Wrestling. In fact, even some of the top officials at Punk's former home of WWE reportedly believe he'll land at AEW.

Punk began wrestling in the late 1990s, enjoying a lengthy stint on the independent circuit. After achieving success with Ring of Honor and Total Nonstop Action, he joined WWE in 2005 as part of the Ohio Valley Wrestling developmental territory. The following year, he debuted on the now-defunct ECW brand, where he had a respectable undefeated streak that lasted until January 2007.

Following an ECW Championship run, Punk won the Money in the Bank match at WrestleMania XXIV, setting the stage for his first World Championship win when he cashed in against John "Bradshaw" Layfield. After another MITB cash-in, Punk would hover around the upper mid-card until he was sidelined with a hip injury.

Upon returning from injury in late 2010, Punk took over as the leader of the Nexus, entering a feud with John Cena. In 2011, he would deliver his now-infamous "pipe bomb" promo in which he aired his grievances with WWE on live television. While this wasn't kayfabe, it was worked into his storyline with Cena leading into 2011's Money in the Bank, where Punk won his first WWE Championship.

In the years that followed, Punk would remain in the upper card, even breaking the record for the sixth-longest WWE Championship reign at 434 days. However, in 2014, he famously departed the company on bad terms. After walking out, Punk was suspended for two months and wound up receiving his termination papers on the day of his wedding to AJ Lee (April Mendez). As for the circumstances behind his departure, Punk cited his personal health, including a MRSA infection (he would later deny receiving a diagnosis), broken bones and concussions. Since then, he's been largely removed from the professional wrestling scene, instead opting for a career in mixed martial arts.
