Today, DC Comics announced new artists for the "Fringe" digital comic, "Beyond the Fringe." According to the publisher's blog,The Source, "Invader Zim" creator Jhonen Vasquez and "Demo" co-creator Becky Cloonan are the latest artists to join the digital endeavor expanding the "Fringe" universe. "Beyond the Fringe" will alternate between two different story lines. The "A" storyline explores events directly influenced by the show's canon, while the "B" storyline will function as an alternate take on the same events if certain elements were out of sync. The first issue is scheduled to hit March 7 and is written by "Fringe" star Joshua Jackson with art by Jorge Jimenez. Vasquez and Cloonan will join the comic for "Beyond the Fringe" #5a and 6a.

While Vasquez is best known for his work on "Invader Zim" and "Johnny the Homicidal Maniac," "Beyond the Fringe" is one of the few instances the creator has done work for hire comics work. Vasquez's most recent work for the big two was in 2009, when he contributed a M.O.D.O.K. story to "Strange Tales II" for Marvel.

Cloonan has done numerous work for DC's Vertigo imprint, including "Demo," "Northlanders" and "American Virgin," but her efforts have lately been focused on producing creator owned work, with her new comic "The Mire" going up for crowd-based funding on her website. Cloonan is also working with "Demo" co-creator Brian Wood on Dark Horse's "Conan the Barbarian" relaunch, which got a 4 star review from CBR's Kelly Thompson.
