One of the strongest parts of the Star Wars universe is The Clone Wars, an animated series set between the second and third prequel movies. It did a superb job of fleshing out the story beyond what those films gave fans. And on top of all of that, several Jedi, Clones, and more got their chances to step out from the shadows and become favorites.

At the same time, there were more than a few characters who just were not all they could be. Whether their stories didn't do them justice or they just never got to play a bigger role, they all had potential they did not live up to.

10 Barriss Offee Needed A Bigger Spot Before The Turn

Barriss Offee fights Anakin Skywalker

Ahsoka Tano was one of the most prominent characters in the series and Anakin Skywalker's Padawan. But there were not a lot of other Padawans in the series, excluding Bariss Offee who was being trained by Master Luminara Unduli.

She only appeared in a handful of episodes, though her betrayal was a huge part of the reason why Ahsoka ended up leaving the Jedi Order. The only problem was that Offee's character didn't get a lot of development. There is way more that could have been done with her characters, particularly leading up to her big turn.

9 Wullf Yularen Lacked Motives

Yularen with Admiral Thrawn

One of the staunchest allies of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker during the Clone Wars was Admiral Wullf Yularen. He was regularly the officer in command of the Republic Naval forces they worked with. While Yularen seemed like a Republic loyalist, he went along with the Galactic Empire.

The problem was that there had never really been a reason given for why he supported the Empire and tacitly supported Order 66. There was nothing in The Clone Wars that suggested why he made that decision, meaning there's a lot of story left to tell with him.

8 Mon Mothma Was A Missed Opportunity

There were several high-ranking members of the Rebellion who were key to legitimizing the movement. Mon Mothma, a former Senator with the Republic, left the Empire behind to help build opposition against Palpatine.

She was a small part of the story in certain arcs of The Clone Wars that focused on the Senate. But anyone looking for a more fleshed-out backstory for this character would have been disappointed. Rebels did a better job of showing why she left the Empire behind.

7 The Story Of Rush Clovis Has Huge Gaps

Rush Clovis with Padme Amidala

Rush Clovis was always depicted as a bit of a power-hungry villain. He was born into the Banking Clan and was playing both the Republic and the Separatists against each other at one point. When he returned a few seasons later, he found himself to be yet another pawn in Palpatine's game.

There were actually intriguing aspects to Clovis, but that was never really followed up on. His potential was lost to the larger story. In the end, Rush ended up being quite one-dimensional, which seems like a bit of a waste.

6 Nute Gunray Kind Of Faded Away

As the Separatists were established in the prequel movies, there were more than a few villainous characters introduced. One of them was Nute Gunray, a member of the treacherous Trade Federation which played a big part in the plot against the Republic.

What was kind of surprising was that Nute Gunray didn't have a bigger role in the series. He was a key part of building the Separatist movement but only appeared in six episodes of The Clone Wars. Not spending more time with him was kind of a surprise.

5 Wat Tambor Needed More Investigation

In addition to the Trade Federation and the Banking Clan, there was another mysterious group known as the Techno Union. They were responsible for capturing Echo and turning him into a cyborg.

The most prominent member of this group in the series was Wat Tambor. As interesting as the Techno Union seemed, neither the group nor Tambor received much explanation. Honestly, it would have been helpful as their presence was perplexing at best.

4 Everyone Wanted More From Embo

If there's one thing that can be said about Star Wars, it's that it is a galaxy filled with a seemingly endless array of super cool bounty hunters. There are so many of them that it kind of makes fans wonder if there's some sort of trade school cranking them out.

Embo might have been the most interesting of them all. The silent warrior wore an awesome hat and had a pet Anooba named Marok. But he didn't get anywhere enough screen time, and never really got the opportunity to deliver on his potential.

3 Aurra Sing Lacked Dimension

Throughout the prequel movies, there were several characters who popped up with little or no explanation ever provided. Part of the appeal of The Clone Wars was that the series developed those characters further in a satisfying way for fans.

Unfortunately for Aurra Sing, that didn't really happen for her. She popped up a couple of times, mostly as a pseudo mother figure to a young Boba Fett. But she remained as mysterious as ever, inexplicably surviving a crash at one point.

2 Admiral Trench Disappeared As Quickly As He Arrived

There were a lot of odd species that popped up in The Clone Wars, particularly on the side of the Separatists. One of the more interesting members of their military was Admiral Trench. His species was called the Harch, which apparently look like giant, anthropomorphic tarantulas.

Trench popped up in extremely few episodes. This was odd given that he was described as a legendary military leader. He had the potential to be a major villain but was killed twice rather unceremoniously, instead.

1 Finis Valorum Should Have Come Up More

Finis Valorum being removed from office

Part of Sheev Palpatine's plan to create the Galactic Empire was to take control of the Republic. And that meant removing the current Chancellor, Finis Valorum. The blockade of Naboo by the Trade Federation gave Padmé Amidala the leverage she needed to oust Valorum, at Palpatine's insistence.

Despite the fact that he was on Coruscant throughout the Clone Wars, he only popped up one time. This seems like a huge missed opportunity as Valorum could have played a much bigger role in exploring the intrigue happening behind the scenes.
