This week's episode of Marvel's Cloak & Dagger was full of surprises, as it dealt with the aftermath of Ty (Aubrey Joseph) and Tandy (Olivia Holt) achieving everything they had been pursuing. For Ty, that meant finally revealing to his parents and everybody that his brother was murdered by a corrupt cop, and for Tandy, that was punishing the man behind her father's death."Back Breaker" underscored that success isn't all it's cracked up to be. That's made abundantly clear with the classroom scene that punctuates the episode, exploring the classic hero arc and the importance of regression after change. As you may have guessed, it was an emotionally heavy episode -- and placing a tasteful Stan Lee cameo in there was no easy task, but it clearly had to be done.

In her regression, Tandy once again drugs a mark whom she intends to rob. She subtly alludes to her abilities, talking about how she's able to see the hopes and dreams of those she touches. In that scene, as she wanders the hallway of the man's mansion, you'll see her admiring a fine bit of pop art. The subject of the Warhol-esque painting is none other than Stan Lee.

Stan Lee cameo in Cloak and Dagger

For decades now, Lee has famously made cameos in Marvel-related films from the 1989 TV movie The Trial of the Incredible Hulk to the more recent Ant-Man and The Wasp. Fans expect it now, but less so when it comes to television. While several shows set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have worked in full cameos by the comic book legend -- The Gifted, Agent Carter and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., to name a few -- other shows, such as those on Netflix, have had to make do with simple, well-placed images, in which he's now identified as New York City Police Captain Irving Forbush (that's, of course, a nod to the not-so-secret identity of Forbush Man, the mascot of Marvel's late-1960s parody comic Not Brand Echh).

Lee's most recent flesh-and-blood television cameos were as a bar patron on Fox's The Gifted, and as a chauffeur on Hulu's Runaways. But nowhere has his appearance been more stylish than his artful cameo on Cloak & Dagger.

Airing Thursdays at 8 pm ET/PT on Freeform, Cloak & Dagger stars Olivia Holt as Tandy Bowen/Dagger and Aubrey Joseph as Tyrone Johnson/Cloak, as well as Andrea Roth as Tandy’s mother Melissa Bowen, Gloria Reuben as Tyrone’s mother Adina Johnson, Miles Mussenden as Tyrone’s father Michael Johnson, Carl Lundstedt as Tandy’s partner in crime Liam, James Saito as Dr. Bernard Sanjo and J.D. Evermore as Detective Connors.
