freeform has given a second season pick-up to freshman marvel drama cloak & dagger.

the news was announced ahead of the show's panel this evening at comic-con international in san diego. according to the hollywood reporter, the series will return for a ten-episode second season in spring 2019. it's the first marvel series for disney's recently revamped freeform, where the series premiere ranked as freeform's no. 1 series debut in more than two years with an impressive 4.4 million viewers -- including delayed viewings.

cloak & dagger, which ranks as the top new cable drama the summer among freeform's key women 18-34 and 12-34 demos, is set to end it's first season on august 2. the most recent episode, titled "ghost stories," saw the show not only respond to the luke cage season two shoutout, but also finally give tyrone a comics-accurate look as the character donned a robe reminiscent of his costume in the comics.

airing thursdays at 8 pm et/pt on freeform, cloak & dagger stars olivia holt as tandy bowen/dagger and aubrey joseph as tyrone johnson/cloak, as well as andrea roth as tandy’s mother melissa bowen, gloria reuben as tyrone’s mother adina johnson, miles mussenden as tyrone’s father michael johnson, carl lundstedt as tandy’s partner in crime liam, james saito as dr. bernard sanjo and j.d. evermore as detective connors.
