Cloak & Dagger Showrunner Wants Crossover With Runaways

At Last weekend's WonderCon in Anaheim, Head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb, Aubrey Joseph, Olivia Holt, Gina Prince-Bythewood and Joe Pokaski discussed Freeform's upcoming Cloak and Dagger series and the possibility of a crossover with another series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Hulu's Runaways.

"I mean it was really important for the first season to really establish Tandy and Tyrone, even as people before they become superheroes," said series showrunner Pokaski. "But I’m a big fan of what Josh [Schwartz] and Stephanie [Savage] did on The Runaways and we're always talking about when do we get to do our crossover. There's probably 400 lawyers in the way... I'm excited for however Cloak & Dagger can play in the universe."

Pokaski also teased the first season of Cloak & Dagger and its potential for a second season. "Season 1 is really about them emotionally and where they're coming from," he said. "Probably a slightly slower bake than most tv shows about what the origin story is and learning to use your powers but, as we kinda turn the corner into Season 2, we're gonna deal with almost all of that and hopefully in a real way that'll help save more and more people."

Although Runaways Season 1 was fairly self-contained, Loeb has already confirmed that the show exists within the same narrative universe as Marvel's Netflix shows. Cloak and Dagger do appear early on in Runaways comics, though there's no telling at this stage whether the upcoming second season of the show will feature the two characters.

Arriving with a two-episode premiere on June 7 on Freeform, Cloak & Dagger stars Olivia Holt as Tandy Bowen/Dagger and Aubrey Joseph as Tyrone Johnson/Cloak, as well as Andrea Roth as Tandy’s mother Melissa Bowen, Gloria Reuben as Tyrone’s mother Adina Johnson, Miles Mussenden as Tyrone’s father Michael Johnson, Carl Lundstedt as Tandy’s partner in crime Liam, James Saito as Dr. Bernard Sanjo and J.D. Evermore as Detective Connors.
