SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for "Ghost Stories," the latest episode of Cloak & Dagger.

Cloak & Dagger just fridged Detective Brigid O'Reilly's boyfriend Office Fuchs -- literally. In "Ghost Stories," the latest episode, O'Reilly finally got her man, but she paid a major price for it. Just after she arrested Detective Connors for the death of Tyrone's brother Billy Johnson, she discovered Fuchs' lifeless body stuffed in a fridge.

On the eighth anniversary of Billy's death, Tyrone insisted it would be the day Connors paid the price for his crime. In order to do, he enlisted the help of O'Reilly and Fuchs. He revealed his teleportation powers to them and explained his plan: he would pretend to be the ghost of his dead brother, psyching Connors out until he confessed.

Tyrone's plan worked. O'Reilly brought him to the dock where Billy died, only for Tyrone to appear and disappear before his very eyes. Connors became unnerved and tried to shoot Tyrone, only for Tyrone to disappear just in time. Ultimately, Tyrone -- pretending to be Billy -- demanded Connors confess. Hoping this would make "Billy" go away, Connors did, with O'Reilly capturing the confession on tape. With this, she was able to put him under arrest.

Someone -- likely Connors' mysterious uncle, who helped cover up Billy's death -- didn't take kindly to Connors' arrest. In an act of revenge, someone murdered Fuchs in cold blood. O'Reilly discovered this when she went to pay him a visit at his house. When she entered, she noticed unpacked groceries on the table. She then pulled the refrigerator door open, revealing Fuchs' body inside.

Of course, "fridging" has its roots in the comic book community. The term, which refers to any time a character's significant other is killed or abused as a way to punish the protagonist, was popularized by writer Gail Simon. Famously, in Green Lantern, Kyle Rayner's girlfriend Alexandra DeWitt was killed by villain Major Force, who left her body in the fridge as a surprise for Rayner to find. The death of Fuchs in Cloak & Dagger obviously parallels this infamous scene, though it flips the gender of the characters.

Airing Thursdays at 8 pm ET/PT on Freeform, Cloak & Dagger stars Olivia Holt as Tandy Bowen/Dagger and Aubrey Joseph as Tyrone Johnson/Cloak, as well as Andrea Roth as Tandy’s mother Melissa Bowen, Gloria Reuben as Tyrone’s mother Adina Johnson, Miles Mussenden as Tyrone’s father Michael Johnson, Carl Lundstedt as Tandy’s partner in crime Liam, James Saito as Dr. Bernard Sanjo and J.D. Evermore as Detective Connors.
