Official Press Release
For the first time, you can now access the best comics directly on your iPhone, anytime, anywhere.
Clickwheel, the world’s leading digital comic publisher, has announced that its new Clickwheel Comic Reader application is now available to download for free direct from Apple’s new “App Store” on iTunes.
Developed to take advantage of the extensive features on iPhone and iTouch, for the first time, the Clickwheel Comic Reader application enables everyone to get the latest exclusive comic strips from the Clickwheel site on demand, direct to their handset without having to sync to their computer.
No more agonising decisions about which comics to take with you, and no need to be weighed down anymore on your travels by hardback graphic novels. Once subscribed to Clickwheel, to get your comic fix simply press the Comic Reader button on the main menu screen, choose your comic and download directly to view.
To coincide with the launch of the Clickwheel Comic Reader, the UK weekly Sci-fi comic 2000 AD is now available via ‘on demand’ – an industry first.
Clickwheel’s Creative Director Will Simons said, ‘Clickwheel has been at the forefront of digital comics for many years and the Apple iPhone is the perfect platform for accessing great premium content, giving everyone the flexibility to enjoy comics – from old favourites to cutting edge social commentary – anytime, anywhere.”
Established by Will Simons in 2006, Clickwheel is a digital media company that specialises in distributing comics and other digital media to digital media players. The comics are downloaded from the Clickwheel website or, alternatively, the iTunes Store, via an RSS enclosure. In December 2007, Premier Sci-Fi comic 2000AD became available within the site, pioneering the way mainstream comic publishers can provide digital comic content to a global market.
2007 was Rebellion’s 15th anniversary and saw the company acquire the Awesome Studio from Ignition in March increasing its staff to 280 personnel. 2007 saw the release of The Simpsons Game with EA on PlayStation®2 & PSP & Nintendo Wii, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix with EA on PlayStation®PSP, Star Wars: Renegade Squadron with LucasArts on PlayStation®PSP, Aliens Vs. Predator: Requiem with Sierra on PlayStation®PSP and finally Rebellion’s own brand Free Running® with Reef Entertainment on PlayStation®2 & PSP.
2008 sees the long-awaited move to the purpose built Studio in Oxford, Next-Gen project announcements and the fruition of Rebellion’s ambitious plans.
