Clerks III director Kevin Smith has revealed when the first trailer for the film will release online.

Smith released a short video online teasing the trailer's impending arrival on July 6. "The countdown has begun," Smith stated in the video. The director also promised that the trailer will offer fans their "first look at the return of Dante, Randal, Elias, Becky, Jay and Bob." Clerks III will also be touring 19 cities beginning in September, with tickets for the first wave available on July 6. The second wave of dates will be announced at the San Diego Comic Con in July.

Clerks III initially entered development in 2013 with Smith working on the film's original script between March and May of that year. Financing troubles and shooting delays prevented any further developments until 2019 when Smith revealed at San Diego Comic Con that he was writing a new script. The following October, Jeff Anderson signed on to reprise his role as Randal from the previous Clerks films. Smith finished the film's new script in January 2021. Lionsgate secured the rights to produce and distribute the film in July 2021, which is also when Rosario Dawson and Trevor Fehrman were confirmed to be returning as Becky Scott and Elias Grover from Clerks II respectively. Principal photography began the following August in Red Bank, New Jersey and concluded by the end of the month. Smith confirmed in April 2022 that the film was complete and awaiting release.

The upcoming film will be the eighth live-action installment in the View Askewniverse franchise, a series of interconnected films by Smith. Clerks III will also conclude the Clerks trilogy, which began with Clerks in 1994 and continued in 2006 with Clerks II. While the first two films in the trilogy featured Dante Hicks, Smith said the third film focuses on Randal Graves, the sidekick of protagonist Hicks in the previous films. Inspired by Smith's own life experiences, Clerks III will begin with Randal Grave surviving a heart attack and deciding to make a movie with Dante Hicks about their lives at the Quick Stop convenience store.

In addition to Anderson, Dawson and Fehrman, Clerks III marks the return of Brian O'Halloran as Dante Hicks, Marilyn Ghigliotti as Veronica Loughran, Jason Mewes as Jay and Smith as Silent Bob, with the actors reprising their respective roles from previous View Askewniverse films. The film is expected to open in theaters in late 2022.
