Reports claim comic book writer and My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way will write the score for Kevin Smith's Clerks 3, which would be the first film the musician has ever composed.

Slash Film reported that Smith made the announcement at one of the stops along the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot Roadshow, an event that features a showing of Jay and Silent Bob Reboot along with a Q&A with Smith and Mewes.

Smith announced Clerks 3 in earlier October, near the premiere of Jay and Silent Bob RebootClerks 3 will reportedly follow the main characters from the first Clerks film, Randall and Dante, as they attempt to make a movie.

In addition to his successful music career, Gerard Way is the writer of The Umbrella Academy comic series, which was recently adapted into a Netflix series. He's also worked on DC's Doom Patrol comic series and co-written issues of Cave Carson Has a Cybernetic Eye. 

Smith announced that both Brian O'Halloran and Jeff Anderson would return to play Dante and Randall, respectively. Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes also plan to reprise their roles as Jay and Silent Bob in the film. There is no official release date for Clerks 3.
